Gujarat: PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for relatives of 8 drowning victims | India News – Times of India
AHMEDABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 200,000 each for the families of eight people who drowned in the Meshwo River in Gandhinagar district of Gujarat. Eight persons from Vasna Sogthi village drowned while bathing in the Meshwo River during the immersion of Ganesha statues on Friday night.
The Prime Minister condoled the incident, saying in a message on X: “Deeply saddened by the news of the loss of lives in the drowning incident in Dehgam district of Gujarat. My condolences to all the families who lost loved ones in this tragedy. May God grant peace to the departed souls.”
Prime Minister Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 200,000 per person from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased and an aid of Rs 50,000 for the injured, the PMO reported on X.
A funeral procession for the deceased was held on Saturday in the village of Vasna Sogthi.
Dehgam MLA Balrajsinh Chauhan, MP Hasmukh Patel, political leaders and government officials were also present at the mass funeral.
