But the Shy-Tessider admitted that after Carsley initially helped him to settle in the camp, he now feels that he also belongs on this stage.
Hackney, who previously represented Scotland U21’s before switching and his young lions debuted in 2023, said: “Lee Carsley was hospitable when I came in for the first time.
“When I am on a training field, he gives me tips and has just put his confidence to go outside and play.
“Ovenliek, when I came in for the first time, I didn’t know what to expect, but as soon as the first session was out of the way, you get in. It’s really good. We are all good friends and can really continue with each other.
“Now my main goal at this tournament is just to play. Grab the experience, take everything with us and do it as well as we can and the main goal is to win.
“That would be incredible. Of course there is still a long way to go, but if we could do that, it would be special.”
And he doesn’t have to look far for a lot of inspiration.
Colleague Tessider, Boro Man and Big Pal Dael Fry, 27, won both the U17 European Championship and U20 World Cup with England.
Hackney added: “Dael at Boro still speaks a lot about his time with England. He says how much he enjoyed the whole experience of all this, all matches and some players with whom he played, went on with some incredible things.
“He has just said how it is a great experience and enjoy it.”
England starts their Eurocampagne against the Czech Republic on Thursday.
They are then confronted with Slovenia three days later and end the group stage against Germany on Wednesday 18 June with all the matches of the young lions that are broadcast on channel 4.
