Olivia Jones has a wealth of experience as a salon hairdresser in the UK MacLeodBradley.

In an interview with The US Sun, she gave advice on promoting hair growth.

EXCELLENT OILS

Jones says essential oils, combined with scalp massages and hair products with effective ingredients, can transform your hair.

“If you want to improve your hair growth, massaging your scalp twice a day can be helpful,” she said.

“You can do this with or without essential oils, for a minimum of five minutes per massage.

“Work your scalp and treat all areas.”

Coconut oil, aloe, rosemary oil and jojoba oil are among the best ingredients for hair care.

“Rosemary oil in particular has gone viral because of the results it has shown for hair growth,” she said.

She added that people who suffer from hair loss should also make sure they take biotin.

“Biotin produces keratin, which contributes to healthy hair growth,” she said.

FOOD FOR THE THOUGHT

Jones said a nutrient-rich diet is “super important,” in addition to topical treatments, for thriving hair.

“The right diet to maintain and promote thick and healthy hair should include vitamins and minerals such as biotin, zinc, iron and vitamin A,” she said.

“You can get all of these nutrients from foods like salmon, spinach, blueberries, avocados, and many more.”

She said hair growth varies from person to person and it can take up to nine months to get full locks again.

According to Jones, hereditary hair loss is the most common cause of thinning hair, but hormonal changes and stress can also cause hair loss.

She warned that traction alopecia, caused by wearing tight hairstyles, can cause “permanent damage.”

Applying tension to your hair can affect the rate at which it grows.

“Hairstyles that can prevent this include loose buns with small clips or a soft silk scrunchie,” says Jones.

“Loose braids from the base of the neck, not the scalp, can be a great alternative to a regular ponytail.”
