Kharge emphasized that the party’s main focus is to understand Haryana’s loss as it prepares for the upcoming elections in other states. He dismissed the idea that this result will have an impact on the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
“We are doing the analysis along with Rahul Gandhi and other leaders. I held a meeting a few days ago to analyze and we are getting reports on the state of play. How much blame lies with our employees, what is the role of our employees? leaders, and what happened, about everything we get in the state of affairs, we will analyze and decide on the further course of action based on that,” Kharge said.
Speaking to reporters, Kharge noted that the party is paying special attention to the outcome of Haryana as there was a general expectation that Congress would win. “We analyze what happened, then we will decide what to do. We will face several elections in the coming days, we will definitely look at it and keep it in mind (the upcoming elections),” he added.
When asked whether the Haryana results will have an impact on the Maharashtra pollsKharge responded: “One election result will not impact the election in another state, but the question is why the results were the way they were despite people being in our favor?”
He further questioned the unexpected outcome: “We could have understood it if the opinion had been 50:50, with one half saying the results would be in our favor and the other half saying otherwise, but even though the whole country, including media, channels, print media, leaders and public opinion in our favor, what was the reason behind this result We have to find it.”
Kharge reserved his comments on any doubts about the electoral process until the state report is fully analyzed. When the Haryana poll results went in favor of the BJP for the third time in a row, the Congress rejected the election mandate and claimed that the Electronic voting machines (EVMs) were manipulated. This is the first time that a major political party in India has refused to accept election results on such grounds.
The accusation came amid internal discord within the party’s Haryana unit as senior Congress leaders Kumari Selja and Bhupinder Singh Hooda acknowledged their defeat in the state. Selja accused the Hooda faction of being responsible for the party’s underperformance. On the other hand, Hooda has stated that he would accept the results “under protest”, expressing his surprise at the outcome.
