NEW DELHI: The much awaited Haryana Assembly Elections came to their conclusion on Tuesday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious, winning 48 seats and surpassing the majority threshold. The outcome surprised many, as it was in stark contrast to the exit poll predictions.
Before the results were announced, exit polls had predicted a clean sweep for the Congress party, suggesting they would secure 55 seats. According to these predictions, the BJP would be left with only 27 seats. However, when the final figures were released, it turned out that the exit polls were completely inaccurate, with the actual results painting a very different picture.
The election battles in various constituencies ranged from narrow victories to landslide victories. In some cases, candidates managed to secure their seats by a very small margin, barely able to defeat their opponents. On the other hand, certain contenders achieved overwhelming success and achieved significant victories over their rivals in terms of vote share.
The Uchana Kalan constituency,BJP candidate Defender Chatar Bhuj Attri secured victory over Congress’ Brijendra Singh by a razor-thin margin of just 32 votes. This was the smallest margin among the 90 assembly segments that went to the polls on October 5.
However, the sitting MLA from Uchana Kalan, Dushyant Chautala of Jannayak Janta Party, finished fifth, according to the Election Commission.
Congress candidate Mamman Khan, on the other hand, won a resounding victory in the Ferozepur Jhirka constituency in Nuh district, defeating BJP’s Naseem Ahmed by the highest vote margin in the state of 98,441 votes. Khan, the sitting MLA, got 1,30,497 votes, while his nearest competitor polled just 32,056 votes.
The Dabwali seat saw a close contest with Aditya Devilal of the Indian National Lok Dal defeating Congress Party’s Amit Sihag by a narrow margin of 610 votes. Similarly, in Loharu constituency, Congress’ Rajbir Fartia had an upper hand over BJP veteran Jai Parkash Dalal by 792 votes. The Adampur seat also witnessed a close race with Congress candidate Chander Parkash defeating BJP’s Bhavya Bishnoi by 1,268 votes.
In Dadri constituency, Sunil Satpal Sangwan of the BJP emerged victorious, defeating Manisha Sangwan of the Congress by a margin of 1,957 votes. The Panchkula seat saw an upset with Congress’ Chander Mohan defeating senior BJP leader and Haryana Assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta by 1,997 votes.
