Haryana elections: AAP releases list of 20 candidates amid deadlock with Congress over alliance | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday released the first list of 20 candidates for the Haryana State Electionswhile the possibility remains open for Congress, which has itself announced the names of 41 candidates, to negotiate for the remaining seats.
The AAP released the list as it continues to hammer out a deal with the Congress party for the Haryana elections. The Congress released its second list of 9 candidates for the elections on Sunday.
Congress is exploring a ‘win-win’ situation alliance“with the (AAP) in the poll-bound state which has capacity for 90 MLAs.
Earlier, AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha expressed optimism over a possible alliance with Congress after meeting the party in-charge of AICC Haryana Deepak Babaria.
Both parties aim to seat allocation agreement for the deadline for nomination on September 12, Chadha told reporters.
Stressing the mutual desire for an alliance, Chadha said that “both sides have a wish, a desire and a hope for an alliance. The last date for nomination is September 12. We will take a decision by 12. If we don’t agree or if there is no win-win situation, we will leave it.”
Saturday’s meeting between Chadha and Babaria had also stoked hopes of an alliance. Chadha said, “I hope it (alliance/seat sharing) gets finalised. Ummeed pe duniya kaayam hai (The world is in hope),” after their conversation at the residence of Congress leader and Telangana minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.
Deepak Babaria expressed Chadha’s feelings after their meeting and hoped for a quick resolution.
“The Congress has given me this responsibility and this was my second or third meeting with Raghav Chadha in the last two days. We exchanged the venues and numbers and we hope that the results will be out within two days. It depends; if it is a win-win situation for both the Congress and the AAP, then we will form a coalition; I am aiming for that. It may happen (changes in the names of already announced candidates),” Babaria said.
The urgency of the discussions is heightened by the upcoming elections to the Haryana Legislative Assembly on October 5. The deadline for filing nominations is September 12, while counting of votes is scheduled for October 8.
