Hate face-to-face meetings? Well, they’re costing you thousands of dollars in lost productivity
A new report from Zoom found that in-person meetings are the least popular and least productive collaboration method, with many preferring instant messaging.
More than a third of leaders lose more than an hour per day solving problems caused by poor teamwork, which can cost businesses up to £12,000 per manager per year.
Perhaps the least surprising news from the report is the claim that teams using more than 10 apps are twice as likely to spend an hour or more solving collaboration problems than teams using fewer than five apps.
Generational differences
All generations except Baby Boomers prefer collaboration without face-to-face contact, such as project management software or instant messaging. However, in-person sessions still top the list for Boomers. Gen Z is most burdened by follow-ups, which take up more than an hour a day on project statuses.
To increase efficiency, some are turning to AI, with 67% using the technology at least a few times a week and 74% of leaders finding it makes them more productive. Asynchronous collaboration methods such as shared documents are favored by 46% of AI users, compared to 20% of non-AI users.
Recent studies have praised AI as a productivity enhancerwith Workday estimating that the UK GDP could be £119 billion better off. The study found that there was a potential 2.9 hours saved per day using AI, which equates to 92 working days per year.
Yet nearly 93% of UK workers and leaders are concerned about trust in AI, with 38% saying they need more time to train their teams, 32% saying there is too little investment, and 38% worried about privacy, security or bias.
