'He is a child in front of Indira Gandhi': Kharge responds to Amit Shah's comments on ex-PM
NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday responded to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, stating that “he is a child in front of Indira Gandhi”.
Amit Shah, addressing several rallies in Maharashtra, confirmed that Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, would not be reinstated irrespective of the circumstances.

“Even if Indira Gandhi returns from heaven, Article 370 will not be restored,” Amit Shah said.
Meanwhile, Kharge condemned the BJP-led Mahayuti as a ‘government of thieves’ and urged voters to defeat it in the upcoming elections on November 20. Campaigning in Latur, Kharge criticized the BJP and its ideological partner, the RSS, for their lack of commitment to India’s freedom struggle and national unity. He denounced divisive slogans such as ‘Batenge to Katenge’ and ‘Ek Hai to Safe Hai’, calling them dangerous.
Kharge also highlighted the serious problems facing Maharashtra, including the alarming suicide rate among farmers. He stated, “Seven farmers die every day in Maharashtra, but the government remains silent.”
He reiterated Congress’s commitment to a caste census for fair distribution of resources, denounced Modi’s false promises and stressed the importance of Dr. Ambedkar for ensuring the unity and equality of India.
Amit Shah further argued that the Muslim reservations proposed by Congress would reduce quotas for Dalits, tribals and OBCs.
Mentioning a recent meeting between Muslim scholars and the Congress president over reservation demands, he said, “Rahul Baba, not only you, but even if your fourth generation were to come, you cannot reduce the quota for SCs/STs/OBCs to give. for Muslims”.
The BJP leader positioned the ruling Mahayuti alliance as defenders of the principles of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Veer Savarkar, while labeling the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi as an “Aurangzeb Fan Club”. At a Jalgaon rally, he warned that an MVA victory would turn Maharashtra into a financial resource for the Congress headquarters in Delhi.
During his campaign, Shah highlighted the BJP’s achievements in developing projects such as the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath corridor. He stressed, “Prime Minister Modi built the Ram temple, and now Somnath is also made of gold,” while seeking support for the BJP.
Political rivalry between the Mahayuti alliance and the MVA coalition has intensified as Maharashtra approaches assembly elections on November 20, with results scheduled for November 23.
