Heartbreaking details are emerging about the young woman Mathilde Innes Pouliquin who was found dead after her disappearance

A young woman found dead after disappearing from her home worked for the French embassy in Australia.

Mathilde Innes Pouliquin, who preferred to be called ‘Ines’, was last seen on September 27 at her home in Dickson in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.

Police launched an investigation into the 26-year-old’s disappearance and twice appealed to the public for information on her whereabouts.

Ms Pouliquin’s body was found near Wells Creek near Berrima, in the Southern Highlands, at around 11.45am on September 29.

“The body has been formally identified as that of the missing woman,” NSW Police said.

In a moving statement, the French Embassy in Australia expressed its sadness over Ms Pouliquin’s death.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of our colleague Mathilde Inès Pouliquin,” the Embassy of France in Australia wrote on its website.

“The French Embassy in Australia and all its colleagues sympathize with the grief of her family and friends.”

Police are calling on anyone who has seen or has dashcam footage of Ms Pouliquin’s Volkswagen Golf sedan with license plates YOP57Z to come forward

Ms Pouliquin’s death is not being treated as suspicious, but police have appealed for anyone who may have seen her car or has dashcam footage to come forward.

Her red Volkswagen Golf sedan with registration plates YOP57Z was spotted on the Hume Highway between the ACT and Berrima in the early hours of September 27.

The car was also spotted in the same area at around 10.45am on September 29 – about an hour before her body was discovered.

“The vehicle is distinctive in that it has significant hail damage to all panels of the vehicle,” NSW Police said.
