“This wording places the decision unmistakably in Jack’s hands, and subtly indicates that he was the one who felt the relationship had to end. To many, this might suggest that Jack was the driving force behind the split.”
Martine adds that their decision to be together has changed and they are still looking for a new way to move forward that works for the whole family.
The psychologist says: “Martine’s formulation gives the impression that she is trying to accept something that may not have been her preferred outcome.
“However, this acceptance also demonstrates her emotional maturity and her willingness to respect Jack’s feelings and choices, despite the personal pain this may cause her.”
The couple often argued with their son, so it is only natural that Martine says that they will always be there for him as a family, even after their divorce.
Emma added: “The couple’s mutual devotion to their nine-year-old son, Rafferty, is a central theme in the statement, with them stressing that his “happiness and wellbeing” remains their “number one priority”.
“This suggests that even though their romantic relationship is coming to an end, they are still fully committed to positive co-parenting.”
“But the decision to emphasise Rafferty’s wellbeing may also be a way for Martine to emphasise her continued role as a loving and protective parent.
“By keeping the focus on Rafferty, she subtly reminds everyone that, regardless of the divorce, her greatest concern has always been her son, and by extension, the well-being of her family.”
The end of the statement is particularly poignant, according to Emma, who added: “Marine expresses her continued support for Jack, saying: “I continue to send Jack all the love, happiness and joy for the next chapter of his life.”

It came just weeks after the former EastEnders actress, 48, told how her love for the 40-year-old singer was “unconditional” – and how she was looking forward to their “next chapter”.
Jack is a singer-songwriter who attended the famous BRIT School.
The couple met in the early 2000s at a live music venue in Piccadilly.
Martine previously told about their first meeting: “We met and that was it.”
The former couple married in 2012 at Lake Como in Italy.
The couple welcomed their son Rafferty in 2015.
On August 22, 2024, Martine announced the breakup on social media.
“But it’s the line that follows: ‘Rafferty and I (as always) support you!’, that has a deeper meaning.
“By saying ‘as always,’ she subtly indicates that she and Rafferty have always supported Jack, and possibly even prioritized his happiness and success throughout their relationship.”

Emma also said: “It’s likely that Martine has suspicions, or is fully aware of what the next chapter might entail, and that she’s ultimately letting both Jack and the world know that she’s prepared for this.
“While on some level it seems like she is fully supportive, you can’t help but feel that she also wants to make it clear that she is not to blame… even if Jack believes that to be the case at this point.”
