Here’s the list of sports people want to ban from the Olympics, including one of the most controversial: ‘It’s boring’
Four new sports were added to the 2024 Paris Olympics, but fans of the Games say the committee should instead cut “boring” events.
Men’s football, the iconic steeplechase, the 100-meter sprint and walking events were among the least popular sports criticized by thousands of Olympic fans online.
One post, asking people which sport they thought should be cut the most, went viral.
Race walking topped the list of least popular disciplines, with people calling it “really hilarious,” “extremely stupid,” and breaking the rules was one of them.
Race walking at the Olympics, where the average speed is 9.5 miles per hour, differs from running in that athletes must keep one foot on the ground at all times.
It was one of the first sports added to the modern Games in 1908 and has remained part of the event ever since, despite calls for it to be removed from the event.
“I think speed walking is pretty pointless, and they all seem to cheat without consequences,” said one man.
“The whole sport is like when you tell a kid, ‘Don’t run!’ around a swimming pool,” added another.
“They’re just regular joggers,” a third said angrily.
Olympic fans say race walking is the number one sport that should be removed from the Games

Steeplechase was the least popular activity on the list.
In this competition, competitors must jump over 28 fixed obstacles of varying heights and seven separate water jumps.
One man felt that the modern steeplechase should be replaced by the original version, which took place in a natural landscape of rivers, creeks and hedgerows.
“There’s no point jumping in a puddle and saying ‘oh, that’s a river,’ and then immediately jumping in the damn river,” he said.
Men’s soccer was a surprisingly popular sporting event that people also wanted to see removed from the Games. Many complained that the best players were unfairly prevented from competing in the Olympic sport due to strict FIFA rules.
Hundreds of people criticized dressage, calling anything to do with horses an unsuitable Olympic sport due to possible animal cruelty. One example is the horse whipping incident in Charlotte Dujardin, which shook the British dressage team to its core.
‘Anything to do with equestrian sport. Multiple horse welfare scandals, one in the UK in the run up to this Olympics and one in the modern pentathlon at the last Olympics that I know of,’ said one woman.
“Dressage… it’s a stupid elitist pursuit – not a sport, which I believe involves more animal cruelty than has been shown,” agreed another.
Others criticized boxing for the controversy surrounding its points system, which some said was too dependent on the “mood” of the judges.
One said that golf was “as boring as dishwater” to watch, and another thought that surfing did not belong in the Olympics because the waves naturally had too much variation.
While some felt that lesser-known sports such as trampoline jumping should be banned, others argued that these sports were just as fun to watch.
“Keep them all, the best thing about the Olympics is the weird niche sports that I would never otherwise watch,” said one man.
“Add more weird sports. Bring artistic kayakcross or something,” he added.
‘This! Sports are also really good for people, regardless of their level. Another big goal of the Olympics is to show sports that can inspire people,’ agreed another.
A sports fan caused a stir on Reddit by stating that this is the most popular event and that the Olympics might as well put an end to it.
“The 100m. Just to make everyone angry,” he said.
