Hillary Clinton criticized for calling Trump a ‘danger to country and world’ less than 48 hours after assassination attempt

Hillary Clinton is facing criticism from conservatives online after calling Donald Trump a “danger to the country” less than 48 hours after a second assassination attempt was made on him.

The former Democratic presidential candidate made the comments during an interview on MSNBC with host Rachel Maddow on Monday night while promoting her new book.

“I don’t understand why it’s so hard for the press to have a consistent story about how dangerous Trump is,” Clinton said.

She suggested that journalists focus on the “object,” stating, “Well, the object in this case is Donald Trump, his demagoguery, the danger he poses to the country and the world, and stick to that.”

Conservatives and Trump supporters seized on the online comments.

“Hillary Clinton knows exactly what she’s doing here,” Trump’s son Donald Jr. wrote on X.

He accused his father’s former political rival of “deliberately fanning the flames of violence on the left to further endanger his life.”

Conservative political commentator Liz Wheeler wrote that Clinton’s comments “are the rhetoric that sparked TWO assassination attempts on Trump.”

Another X user wrote: ‘Hillary Clinton couldn’t even wait 48 hours after an assassination attempt to tell everyone that Donald Trump is a danger to our country and the world. Unbelievable.’

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was arrested Sunday after the second attempted murder of the Republican presidential candidate while he was playing a round of golf at his club in Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.

In the interview, Maddow shared her observation that she still thinks Trump is taught by the media that “the more offensive he is, the more he can completely dominate the media.”

Maddow then asked Clinton if there was any way to make sure people don’t fall into that trap.

In her response, Clinton strongly criticized the way the press handled the reporting on Trump.

“The press is not able to cover Trump the way they should,” Clinton said. “They go from one scandal to another. What was scandalous three days ago is no longer on the front pages, even though it threatens the physical safety of so many people.”

The former Secretary of State specifically mentioned the safety of immigrants.

She criticized the press, saying they were “merciless in what they saw as President Biden’s problems in the debate and calling on him to withdraw,” Clinton said.

Clinton said she believes Donald Trump has “disqualified himself over and over again to be a presidential candidate, let alone to serve with a president.”

The former first lady and senator also suggested that Trump is banking on people being desensitized by his comments. She warned that Americans should take Trump “both seriously and literally.”

Clinton subsequently criticized the former president for “failing to protect American lives during COVID” and for his “romance with dictators.”

“We cannot go back and give this very dangerous man another chance to do harm to our country and to the world,” Clinton reiterated.

The clip does not mention or ask about the attempted assassination of Trump.

Later in the interview, Clinton and Maddow discussed Russian disinformation campaigns and how they knowingly use Americans to spread Russian propaganda.

Clinton said it is important to indict the Russians, but she also said there are Americans who are involved in propaganda.

She argued that civil or criminal charges would be a “better deterrent” because it is unlikely the Russians will ever face trial in the United States.

Conservatives, including Trump’s own running mate, reacted strongly to the comments.

“Hillary Clinton is calling for censorship, but she’s actually calling for violence,” JD Vance claimed in a post on X.

This comes after US officials from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in Washington this summer confirmed the existence of the Russian plan to install Trump in the White House.

Earlier this month, the US announced sanctions, charges and seizures of web domains that officials say were being used by Russia to spread disinformation.
