History will never forgive those who do not allow a level playing field: Sibal after the opposition's no-confidence motion against Vice President Dhankhar
NEW DELHI: RajyaSabha MP Kapil Sibal on Thursday filed the call for the vice president’s removal Jagdeep Dhankhar as chairman of the Rajya Sabha, an “unprecedented” move and a “sad day for the mother of democracy”.
Continuing his attack, Sibal said history would never hit those who “do not allow a level playing field in the functioning of the House”.

Earlier, Sibal had said he condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party for politicizing the ongoing proceedings of the House of Representatives.
“The point is that what we are seeing unfolding in the House of Representatives is political. We really don’t need to rely on what one side has said over the other. We just need to see the work of the House. What’s happening in the House of Representatives? the House is only political. The people of India must know where the Rajya Sabha Chairman stands, you just have to see the proceedings of Parliament. They (BJP) will not allow it (opposition’s no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman) to move. They will reject it. And that is politics,” he told news agency ANI.
Sibal’s comments came just a day after the INDIA bloc upped the ante against Dhankhar, with Congress chief Malikarjun Kharge calling the vice president’s chairman the House of Representatives’ “biggest disruptor”. During a press conference, Kharge had claimed that the vice president’s loyalty is to the “ruling party” and that “he is acting as a government spokesperson for the sake of his next promotion.”
“We have no hesitation in saying that the biggest disruptor in the Rajya Sabha is the Speaker himself,” Kharge said.
“His loyalty lies with the ruling party, rather than the constitution and constitutional traditions. We can see him acting as a government spokesperson for the sake of his next promotion,” he added.
Kharge’s comments were supported by Shiv Sena (UBT) ally MP Sanjay Raut who said Dhankhar was not in charge of the Rajya Sabha but was instead “running a circus”.
“I have never seen such a terrible situation, and our chairman Sahib is enjoying, enjoying. He is not running Parliament, he is running a circus,” the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP said.
Meanwhile, the Vice President said during a speech in Jaipur that there is a “well-planned attempt to disintegrate the country and divide the country.”
“There are a number of forces in the country and abroad that cannot cope with India’s progress. There is a well-planned attempt to disintegrate the country, divide the country and insult its institutions. We must collectively neutralize any anti-national narrative. Dhankhar said.
Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Naseer Hussain, representing the Opposition, submitted a notice to Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody on Tuesday. The announcement contained signatures of 60 opposition MPs comprising members of various parties including Congress, RJD, TMC, CPI, CPI-M, JMM, AAP, DMK and Samajwadi Party.
The chairman position of the Rajya Sabha is automatically filled ex officio by the Vice President.
