HMD Fusion with interchangeable smart outfits becomes official in India

HMD Fusion was launched in India as the latest smartphone from Human Mobile Devices (HMD). The device comes with interchangeable covers (sold separately), called ‘Smart Outfits’, which work with specialized smart pins. Users can attach these outfits to the back of their phones to give them a distinctive look and add functionality. The phone gets a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC with 8GB of RAM and features a dual rear camera setup led by a 108-megapixel primary sensor. The HMD Fusion was unveiled in September this year at the IFA 2024 trade fair in Berlin.

The HMD Fusion costs Rs. 17,999. The brand offers HMD casual outfits, statement outfits and gaming outfits worth Rs. 5,999 free.

As a special launch offer, HMD will be selling the phone at a price of Rs. 15,999 for a limited period only through Amazon. It is not yet known how long the introduction period will last. It will be available for purchase from November 29 at 12:01 pm via the ecommerce website and HMD.com.

HMD Fusion Specifications

The HMD Fusion supports Smart Outfits that add new features to the phone. The fusion gaming outfit offers enhanced gameplay controls, while the flashy outfit has a foldable RGB LED flash ring for selfies. These customizable outfits attach to the phone via six smart pins. The device runs on Android 14 and is guaranteed two years of OS upgrades and three years of security updates.

HMD Fusion features a 6.56-inch HD+ (720 x 1,612 pixels) display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 600 nits peak brightness. It has a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip under the hood, along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

For optics, the HMD Fusion has a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 108-megapixel main sensor with electronic image stabilization (EIS) and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. On the front, it boasts a 50-megapixel selfie camera. The handset is claimed to feature HMD’s second-generation repairability design, which will allow owners to replace parts such as the display, battery or charging port using just a screwdriver.

Connectivity options on the HMD Fusion include Bluetooth 5.2, GPS/AGPS, GLONASS, BDS, Galileo, OTG, USB Type-C port, and Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, e-compass, gyroscope and proximity sensor. It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for authentication and supports a face unlock feature.

HMD has packed a 5,000mAh battery into the Fusion with support for 33W charging. The battery unit is said to support over 800 charge cycles. It measures 164.15 x 75.5 x 8.32 mm and weighs 202.5 grams.
