HMD gears up to launch its first-ever smartphones in India

HMD Global, the Finnish mobile manufacturer and parent company of Nokia, is possibly planning to launch two smartphones in India soon. The HMD Crest and Crest Max will be the very first smartphones that the company is launching in the country. While no details have been revealed, HMD is hosting an event on July 25 and there are speculations that it could be related to its upcoming smartphones. This builds on an earlier confirmation by the company on social media about the launch of its first smartphone in India and its naming.

HMD Crest and Crest Max launched in India

According to the official HMD websiteThe company has chosen Crest and Crest Max as the names of its upcoming devices. This development comes after the company held a contest on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) where people were invited to help come up with names for its first-ever smartphones in India.

On July 7, HMD announced that it had chosen “Arrow” as the name for its upcoming smartphones, but was forced to drop the name due to “legal reasons”. After careful consideration, HMD has confirmed that “Crest” has been chosen as the identifier for its smartphone series. The lineup will consist of two smartphones: HMD Crest and HMD Crest Max.

Currently, HMD Global sells three smartphones in India under its umbrella, the Nokia C32, Nokia C22 and Nokia G42 5G. However, none of them carry the HMD branding. While the company did not provide any details about the upcoming launches, one of the smartphones could be a rebranded version of the HMD Pulse that debuted in Europe in April.

Other HMD smartphones in development

HMD Global is also said to be developing multiple smartphones, including two mid-range devices and a rugged handset. The smartphones are said to have similar specifications to the Pulse handsets and could be called HMD Nighthawk, HMD Tomcat and HMD Project Fusion respectively.

It is further speculated that the company is also developing an HMD View and a Nokia Lumia-inspired smartphone called HMD Skyline.
