Honor’s triple-screen phone could be thinner than the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design launched in China last week as the world’s first tri-foldable smartphone, a day after Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 series on September 9. Samsung has shown off multiple designs in recent years, though has yet to launch a commercial model, while rivals Xiaomi, Tecno and Honor are also expected to launch their own tri-fold phones. A tipster has now shared details about Honor’s upcoming foldable phone, claiming it will be thinner (when folded) than Huawei’s latest handset.

According to details shared by user Teme in a after According to X (formerly Twitter), Honor is working on a tri-foldable smartphone that will be 1cm thick when folded. This is higher than the company’s Magic V3 smartphone launched earlier this year that measures 9.2mm thick when folded, but it’s worth noting that Honor’s alleged device will be a dual-hinge tri-fold phone and not a book-style foldable.

If the claim is true, Honor’s rumored tri-fold phone could measure around 10mm thick when folded. That’s slightly thinner than the 12.8-inch thickness of the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, which goes on sale in China from September 20.

While few other details are known about Honor’s alleged triple-screen phone, the company’s CEO reportedly confirmed the development of such a next-generation foldable phone, which would compete with Huawei’s offerings.

Chinese smartphone makers like Honor and Xiaomi may be focusing on developing a tri-fold phone, but Samsung is apparently working on a different design. According to a recent report, the South Korean tech conglomerate is developing a phone with a rollable screen that can expand to a 12.4-inch display. We can expect more details about these alleged foldable phones in the coming months.
