Horrifying moment when gun-wielding Texas man shoots dead partner’s ex during furious child custody fight

This is the horrifying moment a Texas man shot and killed his partner’s ex-husband earlier this month during a furious custody battle over his children.

The Lubbock, Texas incident on Nov. 5 revolved around a custody dispute over the children of Chad Read and his ex-wife Christina Read.

Chad Read’s widow Jennifer Read has claimed that her husband was murdered by Kyle Carruth, who is reportedly Christina’s new boyfriend.

However, Carruth has not been charged by police for the incident in which his lawyers allege the murder was “justifiable murder” and was committed in self-defense.

Through her attorney, Jennifer Read released a statement, along with footage showing her 54-year-old husband Chad Read being shot and killed.

Captured by Jennifer Read from a car on the street outside Carruth’s South Lubbock home, the footage shows Chad Read arguing with his ex-wife and another man, allegedly Carruth.

The cell phone video shows Chad Read and Kyle Carruth arguing on the front porch of the house, with Christina Read on the right.

Kyle Carruth – dressed in a black top and jeans – overhears Chad Read saying ‘get off my property’. Chad Read, wearing a teal top and jeans, gestures with his arms as Carruth turns to enter the house.

Chad Read turns and continues talking to Christina Read, telling her he wants his son, whom he would have custody of from 3:15 p.m. that day, according to Jennifer Read in an affidavit filed after the incident.

“I should have it by 3:15 p.m.,” Chad Read hears Christina Read say. “But you play games and tell me to pick him up at six?”

The pair continue to argue, with Chad Read suggesting that his son is probably at his ex-wife’s mother’s house. Christina Read is heard telling him she wanted to see him, to whom Chad Read says, “I don’t care if you wanted to see him or not.

“I’ll get him at 3:15 p.m. If you want to see him you can see him until 3.15 pm. If you keep trying to keep my son away from me, I’ll take you, Anne Marie, and everyone else to court.”

Carruth then reappears from the house with a firearm, which he holds by his side, yelling “leave” to Chad Read.

Chad Read is heard yelling back, “Use it, mother f***er,” as he faces Carruth and threatens to take the gun from him.

Now face-to-face, Carruth fires one shot into the floor at the couple’s feet, which doesn’t seem to deter Chad Read, who continues to push against Carruth.

Suddenly, Carruth springs back from the porch, raises the rifle and fires two shots at Chad Read, who slumps to the ground.

Carruth walks back to the porch and turns to face the camera. He still holds the gun and wags his finger as Jennifer Read says, “I’ve got it on video Kyle.”

“I told you all to leave,” Carruth is heard saying, telling her that his son is not in the house. ‘You can’t all be here, I’ve asked you to leave. I’ve done everything. I didn’t want to do any of this,” he says.

Carruth has not been charged for the incident. Carruth’s attorney, David Guinn, told KCBD the shooting was done in self-defense and said Chad Read entered his property, citing the Castle Doctrine.

Jennifer Read is now suing for custody of her stepchildren.
