From triumphant victories to record times, the Olympians performed some breathtaking stunts without even breaking a hair.

These Olympians know how to present themselves, from their hair to their makeup and even their well-hydrated skin.

But there’s one question that many people are concerned about: how do gymnasts get their bikini line so smooth and hair-free?

Most of us who shave know that the silky feeling only lasts for a day or so, because then it starts to sting.

And sometimes that can lead to you getting into a rut, because the more you shave, the more irritation you can experience.

A former Canadian team gymnast has revealed the tricks she used to prepare for competitions.

The woman, who bears the name of mi-elskincare on TikTok, provided insight into the beauty tricks gymnasts use and how to prevent razor burn or ingrown hairs.

She said the gymnast shaved every other day because she wasn’t allowed to wear shorts herself.

The gymnast said she has a step-by-step guide to follow because if you skip a step you’ll “probably” get razor burn.

She starts by using a sugar scrub with honey and applies it to her bikini line in gentle, circular motions.

Exfoliating is important because it cleanses the pores and removes dead skin cells that can clog pores and cause irritation.

As for the razor, the former Canadian gymnast uses a four- to five-blade men’s razor, as these are the sharpest and provide the smoothest cut.

She adds that the device is designed to shave the face and therefore works “great” for sensitive skin.

The TikToker advised against storing your razor in the shower, as it “causes the blades to dull faster” and that beauty fans should replace their razors after six shaves.

Instead of shaving cream, she also recommends the LA Roche Posay Lipid Replenishing Anti-Itch Soothing Body Cleansing Cream, £16, from LOOKFANTASTIC.

While shaving, she uses short strokes to avoid irritation and pulls her skin up while shaving in downward strokes.

And if it’s on the sides, she pulls her skin aside and shaves ‘the other side’.

But for a truly close shave for those wearing a high-cut bikini, she says, “I will literally crouch down like a frog, and pull on your skin and shave, using very short strokes, being gentle because it’s a very sensitive area.”

Beauty Secrets of Current Olympians

Jordanian Chiles
The American gymnast has a 26-step makeup routine that includes 15 different products.

To ensure her makeup stays put during her performances, she uses foundation, concealer, primers, eye shadow, lip oils and liners, blush, contour and eyebrows included

Jordan, who has a few hours to get ready for the game, will also be paying extra attention to her eyes, using an eyeshadow primer and setting powder from Fenty Beauty.

Next, the gymnast applies these products to the inner corners of her eyes to create a brightening effect that looks great in the spotlight during her competitions.

Simon Biles
Preparation is key for Simone, who starts by using a Hydro Grip Primer from Milk Makeup, £18 for 10ml or £35 for 45ml.

Then she applies concealer, foundation, liquid eyeliner and mascara and uses two different setting sprays.

The gold medal winner first uses the ONE/SIZE On ‘Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray, £30, and then follows with the Ben Nye Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer, which costs £25.20 on Amazon.

Simone was also spotted dabbing away sweat with a powder.

Lina Nielsen
She is a 400m sprinter for Great Britain, which means she knows all about being ready at all times.

To prevent pimples caused by dirt and sweat, Lina uses a spray with hypochlorous acid.

She has also reduced the products she normally uses to a minimum and keeps her skincare routine very simple.

On competition day, Lina will give her skin extra hydration to protect her skin.

She always uses a primer before applying makeup to make sure everything stays in place.

How do they do their hair?

Expert trichologists at Philip Kingsley share their top tips on how to care for your hair like an Olympic champion

  • Bath Cap Hair Mask: Using the Swimcap keeps your hair protected but also hydrated, giving you the benefits of a leave-in treatment at the same time! The unique, creamy, caring formula — originally formulated for the US Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team — treats and protects hair from the drying, damaging effects of the sun, sea, chlorine and UV rays, and helps keep hair nourished and hydrated.
  • Hair care during sports:
Conditioning masks that you apply before shampooing are great for working out, so why not apply them to your hair before pulling it into a tight ponytail like we saw Keeley do last night! (Elasticizer)
Detangle your hair after washing, as it can get tangled during washing. Then wash it with a shampoo and conditioner that is suitable for the texture of your hair.
If your scalp is itchy after exercising, use a soothing antimicrobial shampoo, such as Flaky/Itchy Scalp Shampoo.
  • Training to work
Philip Kingsley Dry Shampoo is ideal for days when you go straight from training to the office. This shampoo gives your hair an extra boost and absorbs grease.

Aftercare is the ‘most important part of your shaving routine’ because it can prevent razor bumps and ingrown hairs.

After patting her skin dry, I use glycolic acid, a natural exfoliant, and a “bump-busting” cream, which I apply to my legs and bikini line.
