How many English teams will play in Europe next season?
In a usual season, English clubs receive seven allocations to European football:
- The top four reach the Champions League
- Fifth and the FA Cup winners go to the Europa League

However, these figures jump up in different permutations.
Next season there will be a record six Premier League teams in the Champions League.

Just like Newcastle, however, they could still end in a Champions League slot – which would have been knocked on effects for other teams.
If Chelsea also misses the European slots and ends in seventh, but then continuing and winning the conference competition, they would still jump in the Europa League.
That would mean the team that ends eighth in the Premier League – both Brighton or Brentford – would then earn a conference competition place.
