How Often You Should Have Sex, Depending on Your Age – & Our Kinks Revealed
A NEW report has revealed the bedroom adventures of thousands of people around the world. How’s your sex life?
The study, conducted by experts from the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, revealed how often people from different generations have sex on average per month.
According to the data, this is not good news for Gen Z. Despite being young and full of life, they are having less sex, fewer partners and fewer relationships than their parents.
The report, titled ”The State of Dating: How Gen Z is Redefining Sexuality and Relationships”, is based on the results of a survey of more than 3,310 people on the dating app Feeld.
The members of the popular platform, who came from 71 different countries including the UK, the Netherlands and Canada, were aged between 18 and 75.
After researchers collected data on bedroom sex around the world, they found that on average, young people had had sex three times in the past month.

Millennials and Gen X, on the other hand, reported higher rates, averaging around five times per month.
Like Generation Z respondents, Baby Boomers had also been naughty three times in the past four weeks.
“Generation Z and the baby boomer generation exhibit nearly identical sexual frequencies, suggesting that both the youngest and oldest adults are having the least sex,” the researchers, led by Dr. Justin Lehmiller, wrote in the report.
“Additionally, nearly half of Gen Zers reported being single, compared to just one-fifth of Millennials, Gen Xers and Baby Boomers.”
Although they may have the least sex, it seems that the younger generation is the most adventurous when it comes to trying new things in the bedroom.
A whopping 55 percent of Gen Zers said they’ve discovered a new kinky experience since joining Feeld. For Millennials, that number was 49 percent, for Gen Xers, 39 percent, and for Boomers, 33 percent.
“There are at least two explanations for this phenomenon,” the researchers suspect.
One is that older adults have had more time to learn and discover what they like about sex, so they may have already discovered their weaknesses.
”But it also seems that younger adults today have a greater general interest in kink than older adults. That may lead to a greater openness to exploring and learning about their own kink.”
Kinks and Desires
- Gen Z was the most likely to say they had discovered a new kinky experience since joining Feeld (55%), followed by Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers (49%, 39%, and 33%, respectively).
- 56% of Gen Z reported having BDSM fantasies
- 52% of millennials reported having BDSM fantasies
- 31% of Gen Xers reported having BDSM fantasies
- 12% of baby boomers reported having BDSM fantasies.
The researchers also looked at the relationship structure and style preferred by each generation. Members of each group reported strikingly different preferences.
In fact, among Generation Z, monogamy was the most preferred relationship type (23%), while for Millennials and Generation X, it was ethical non-monogamy (24% and 27%, respectively).
However, Baby Boomers indicated that it was friends with benefits (27%).
The experts behind the project hope that the findings will provide greater insight into the evolution of sex, sexuality, relationships and gender.
”Despite the longstanding tendency for people to place sexuality and relationships in narrow categories, they have always lived on a continuum. And that continuum will only continue to evolve and expand as Gen Z and future generations continue their sexual and relationship self-discovery.
“The better we can understand and embrace this simple fact of human life, the better we will all be able to pursue pleasure and happiness.”
