How to delete a character from Character AI
Character AI has a huge catalog of virtual personalities derived from history, fiction, and users’ imaginations. But sometimes you create a character and later decide you don’t want it on the platform anymore.
And while you can’t directly delete AI-generated third-party characters, in this guide we’ll show you how to manage them for yourself and others.
Hide and overwrite character
Since Character AI doesn’t provide a delete button for the AI personalities, you can’t make them disappear from the servers. But you can edit them and their availability to the point where it doesn’t matter anymore.
By making the chatbot private, no one will see it except you, apart from making it invisible. You can also take more drastic steps and overwrite everything about the chatbot with gibberish or punctuation to more thoroughly wipe out its personality.
Here’s how to hide or hide your Character AI personalities:
- Open Character AI and log into your account.
- Select the character you want to send to oblivion from the left sidebar to open a chat with it.
- Click on the three dots in the character’s profile in the right panel and click the “Edit” button.
- At the bottom of the AI profile is the ‘Visibility’ option.
- Change that setting to private.
- Click the ‘Save Changes’ button at the bottom right.
- If that’s not enough, you can overwrite your creation.
- Edit the character’s details in the profile by replacing the name, description, and other details with N/A or other placeholder text.
- Save the changes as you did to make the chatbot private.
Meta AI’s comment summaries can be a fun way to summarize long or complex posts, but they also sometimes fill up your screen. If you don’t find these summaries useful, you can disable them as follows:
- Open Facebook in a web browser or as a mobile app and go to the settings menu.
- Click or tap “Settings” in the “Settings & Privacy” menu.
- Open the ‘Messages’ submenu as shown in the image above.
- Slide the ‘Allow comment summaries on your posts’ box to the left.
- Once disabled, you should no longer see the AI summaries after you reload the website or app.
