How to Download iOS 18 Beta 3 on Your iPhone Right Now

Apple’s iOS 18 public beta is coming in July, offering iPhone users a more stable version of the upcoming operating system. If you don’t want to wait, though, you can download the third iOS 18 developer beta right now.

This latest iOS 18 developer build is largely fixes bugs and other issues to new features like Tap to Cash, Math Notes and iPhone Mirroring.

Apple announced iOS 18 in June at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). While iOS 18 is expected to be available to everyone this fall, Apple has already released the first, second, and third iOS 18 developer betas, which are available to download immediately as long as you’re enrolled in the Apple Developer Program.

The Apple Developer Program has long charged a fee to join, namely $100 per year. Last year, with the release of the iOS 17 Developer Beta, Apple created a free tier of the Apple Developer Program, which allows you to download all Developer Betas for free as long as you have an Apple ID.

Want to try iOS 18 today? Here’s how.

Why You Might Not Want to Download the iOS 18 Developer Beta

Just because you can download the iOS 18 developer beta for free doesn’t mean you should.

Early developer betas like this one are intended for developers to test their apps on future versions of iOS. It’s also a way for developers to identify and report bugs, which helps Apple improve the software before it’s released to the general public. That’s a big reason why you might not want to download the iOS 18 developer beta on your phone: the bugs.

A software bug or other glitches can make your phone unstable. You may not be able to use some of your favorite apps, and even if you can, you may experience apps that crash unexpectedly. The performance of your entire phone may be affected; the developer beta may cause your phone to run slowly, or your battery may drain faster than normal or even overheat.

I’ve been downloading developer betas on my personal iPhone for the past decade and haven’t had any major issues. It’s mostly annoying when an app crashes or my battery drains quickly, but I’ve always managed.

If you have a spare iPhone, you should definitely use that for the iOS 18 developer beta, as you won’t need it every day, so you won’t feel the full impact of any bugs or other issues. If you don’t have one, then hopefully you should be fine running iOS 18 developer beta on your primary.

If you still want iOS 18 but don’t want to deal with the developer beta, there’s always the more stable iOS 18 public beta, which should be released later this month. You can Register here therefore.
