How to link your COVID vaccination certificate to the Service NSW app

The launch of NSW’s vaccine passport has not been without teething troubles as residents complain they can’t access their digital certificate on their phones.

The system, which has been made available overnight, allows residents to prove that they have been double vaccinated when they check in at sites.

For those who have received both jabs and have the updated Service NSW app on their phone, their vaccine status will appear when they check in at a location using the standard QR code process.

Sydneysiders previously had to scroll through their Medicare app or carry a paper certificate to prove to staff they had been stung, but now a green check appears when they sign up with a company.

While many have said they had no problems setting it up, others have said “something went wrong” messages.

A quick fix for many was to update the Service NSW app to show the vaccination certificate.

NSW residents can now prove they have been double vaccinated at the same time they check in at sites after the vaccine passport was quietly launched overnight. Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello tweeted a picture of his vaccine passport on Friday morning as he checked in at a cafe

“I can’t get mine to add the vax certificate on my iPhone and that’s very frustrating. Everything is updated and it says it worked on the Medicare Express side and then nothing shows up in the service NSW app. Anyone else having similar issues on an iPhone?’ a man tweeted.

‘I tried to add my Vax certificate to the Service NSW app but it doesn’t work. Seems to be a widespread problem this morning. I’ll try again later today,” said another.

Users shared screenshots of a message that read “something went wrong, please try again later” and were given a helpline number to call.

Meanwhile, others said they could seamlessly link their vax certificate and reminded others that the app would only work if it was updated.

‘Shoutout to Service NSW for sharing the vaccine certificate so quickly. It looks so simple in the app (because the job is done), but there’s so much going on behind the scenes (and some with other agencies – gasp) to get that done…so snaps!’ an impressed NSW local said.

For anyone having issues with the Services NSW COVID vaccine certificate, please try using the Express Plus app. Worked for me the first time,” someone wrote on Twitter.

A Service NSW spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that more than 300,000 residents have successfully linked their certificate to the app since its launch.

“High demand has led some customers today to have difficulty completing the integration,” they said.

‘A system update has been carried out to manage the increased demand, with Service NSW monitoring the integration.

“Service NSW apologizes to customers experiencing problems and requests that they try again later in the day or contact Service NSW on 13 77 88 for assistance.”

For those who want to take advantage of the new “VaxPass,” make sure their MyGov account is linked to Medicare.

Then, through the online MyGov site or the Express Plus Medicare app, users are instructed to click “Proof of Vaccinations” and then “View History.”

They will then be given the option to choose their digital Covid vaccination certificate and link it to the Service NSW app.

Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello tweeted a photo of his vaccine passport Friday morning as he checked in at a cafe.

The system had previously been criticized for not being ready when Sydney was finally freed from the grueling four-month lockdown on Monday.

With the overnight launch, the vaccine passport was up and running three days earlier than Mr Dominello had planned, making things a lot easier for pub-goers heading out for a Friday night drink.

Several security measures will be put in place, including a hologram of the NSW Waratah logo to help businesses ensure their customers are following the rules.

The app has been tested in aged care clubs and facilities in Port Macquarie, Tamworth, Wagga Wagga and Lismore.

Mr Dominello said that while choosing to merge your vaccine status with the Services NSW app was optional, it was the easiest method to use.

“This is an additional digital service to make life easier for NSW’s businesses and customers as we reopen,” he said.

“NSW is the first jurisdiction in Australia to roll out an integrated QR code solution to display state-wide vaccination status.

“When someone visits a location, they can show their green check-in tick and vaccination status at the same time, saving time for staff and customers.”
