How to reheat pasta
PASTA can be eaten in so many different ways, so be creative.
Whether it’s a lunch for one or a dinner party, pesto pasta can be the perfect meal — but can it be reheated? Here’s everything you need to know.
Can you reheat pasta?
The good news is that you can reheat pasta.
If the pasta is mixed with other ingredients, you should also take that into account.
Pasta is incredibly cheap to make, but you don’t have to waste the Italian delicacies if you don’t eat them all at once.
For example, it is perfectly safe to reheat pasta with chicken and pesto, provided the pasta was put in the refrigerator within an hour of cooking and is no older than two days.
What is the best way to reheat pasta?
While reheating pasta is generally safe, some chefs admit that pesto can change if exposed to heat for too long.
Here are some tips for making the perfect pasta.
Simple pasta
Method:
- Bring some salted water to the boil, make sure there is enough to cover all the pasta
- When the water boils, add the pasta
- Let the pasta cook until it is tender
- You can add some salt to taste and a dash of oil to prevent the pasta from sticking together
- Check your pasta every 30 seconds to prevent overcooking
Once the pasta is tender, drain the water in a colander over the sink and serve the pasta however you like!
The best way to reheat pasta is on the stove.
If you are short on time, you can also use the microwave. Follow the method below.
Simply add a few drops of water or sauce to a microwave-safe bowl to prevent the pasta from sticking together and drying out.
Heat it in the microwave on medium power for 1 minute and 60 seconds.
To prevent overcooking, check halfway through and stir.
If the pasta is not completely warm after this time, stir it well and microwave it for another 15 seconds, until it is warmed through.
Baking pasta
If you have a pasta dish and you’re wondering if you can reheat the leftovers, there are a few ways you can do so.
To heat it up on the stove:
Method:
- Place your pasta dish in a heatproof bag
- Bring some water to the boil in a pan
- Once the water boils, place the bag in it and leave it there for a minute.
- The more pasta you have, the more time it will take to heat up
- After a minute, check if the pasta is cooked. If the pasta is not completely warm, check every 15 seconds. Your pasta is ready to eat!
If you’re in the office and only have a microwave at your disposal, here’s how to reheat your pasta dish faster:
- If the container is microwave safe, lift at least one corner of the lid when placing it in. This is to allow steam to escape.
- Heat on medium power for one minute to 60 seconds
- Stir halfway through cooking so that your pasta is heated throughout.
- If your pasta is not fully heated, reheat it for another 15 seconds before checking again
- It is advisable to mix the pasta before reheating and during reheating. If you have extra sauce, add it to the pasta before reheating so that it is less likely to dry out.
- Once it’s done, you can enjoy your pasta dish
To reheat a pasta dish, it is best to use an oven.
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 160 degrees Celsius
- Place the pasta in an oven dish and cover with aluminum foil to prevent the sauce from drying out.
- Heat the pasta for 20 minutes and to check if it is done, insert the tip of a knife into the center of the pasta dish for 10 to 15 seconds.
- When you remove the knife, feel the tip and if it feels hot, your pasta is ready. If not, it needs to stay in the oven for a bit longer.
- Continue heating in 10 minute intervals until you are satisfied with the desired temperature
How many times can you reheat pasta?
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) recommends that food should only be reheated once, so follow these guidelines where possible.
Reheating food multiple times not only deteriorates its quality, but also increases the risk of food poisoning.
Some other dishes, such as risotto and couscous, require separate reheating methods to maintain quality and flavour.
How to Save Money on Groceries
Experts in saving money at HSBC UK have revealed their top tips for saving money on your groceries.
1. Set a budget
Creating a budget will help you stretch your budget. Start by calculating how much you spent on food over the past three months, and then set aside a certain amount for food each month you get paid.
2. Plan your meals
Make a list of your main meals for the coming week, including the ingredients you need, and stick to it. Don’t be tempted by deals on things you don’t need. If you have some leftover food from the week before, try to see what you can do with it first.
3. Think about when and where you shop
It is best to shop on a full stomach so that you are not tempted. Shopping less often can help you think about what you are buying and can help you stay within your budget.
4. Go online
Online shopping is a great and easy way to manage your budget. It can also help you keep track of your spending while also preventing impulse purchases.
