How to Submit to Metropolitan Diary

Metropolitan Diary is where New Yorkers of all ages and eras, regardless of where they live now – as well as visitors to the city – share anecdotes, memories, quirky encounters and overheard clips that reveal the spirit and heart of the city.

Entries must be associated with New York City and no longer than 300 words (we prefer shorter where possible).

We occasionally publish poems, think of mini plays, and especially love items that make us laugh or make us smile.

You must be able to verify that you are the actual author, that the item is true (that is, that you were there when it happened), and that it has not appeared anywhere else, including on social media.

We also accept submissions by email, to diary@nytimes.com, and by mail, to The New York Times, 620 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10018.

Please include your name and phone number for verification. Your phone number will not be printed.

Entries become the property of The Times and cannot be returned, so please do not send valuable or perishable items.

By submitting your Submission, you grant The New York Times Company a perpetual, royalty-free license to use the Submission in any medium. They can be edited and republished and adapted in all media. You may reprint your story elsewhere after it has appeared in The Times.
