How to watch the Vance-Walz vice presidential debate without cable
Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio and Tim Walz, the Democratic governor of Minnesota, are gearing up for Tuesday’s first and only vice presidential debate. The event will take place in New York City at the CBS Broadcast Center and will be hosted by CBS News.
CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell will moderate along with chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan, current moderator of Face the Nation.
The debate between the vice presidential candidates comes three weeks after the Harris-Trump debate attracted 67 million viewers. The event lasts 90 minutes and includes two commercial breaks. As with the presidential debate in September, there will be no studio audience for the confrontation between Vance and Walz. The two will not make opening statements, but will have two minutes for closing statements.
According to CBS Newseach candidate is given two minutes to answer each question, and his opponent is given two minutes to respond. An additional one minute rebuttal will be allowed for both men, with a possible additional minute given by the moderators for further insight. CBS News can mute its microphones at any time during the debate.
Vance and Walz are not given the questions or topics in advance. No props or pre-written notes are allowed; candidates may use a pen, a piece of paper and a bottle of water.

How to watch the vice presidential debate for free
Vance and Walz meet on the debate stage for their first and only vice presidential debate Tuesday, October 1 at 9:00 PM ET (6:00 PM PT). The 90-minute event will be broadcast live on the CBS News Live website and YouTube channel free.
