Huawei Mate XT to be company’s first ever triple-foldable smartphone

Huawei’s triple-screen smartphone is set to launch in China soon. The company recently announced the launch as well. In recent weeks, the rumor mill has also been teasing the expected specifications of this groundbreaking handset and a prototype of the device has reportedly landed in the hands of a well-known official from the company. Ahead of the expected launch, the name of the smartphone has been confirmed and it will be the latest addition to the Huawei Mate series of devices.

In a after On Chinese social media platform Weibo, Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu confirmed that the company’s first-ever triple-screen smartphone will be known as the Huawei Mate XT. According to the official, it is the result of five years of “perseverance and investment” that “turned science fiction into reality.”

Huawei Mate XT will be launched in China on September 10 at 2:30 PM local time (12:00 PM IST) during the company’s upcoming launch ceremony. Apart from the handset, the Chinese smartphone maker is also expected to make announcements related to HarmonyOS smart driving products.

Huawei Mate XT has already been spotted in public in the hands of Richard Yu on multiple occasions. Being a triple-folding smartphone, it will reportedly feature three different sections for the display – two inner screens and an outer screen, connected via a double-hinge mechanism.

The inner display measures 10 inches and there appears to be a hole for the front-facing camera on the leftmost display. Meanwhile, the rear of the Huawei Mate XT could feature a circular camera module with a bezel design. Under the hood, it could be powered by a Kirin 9-series chipset that is also rumoured to power the alleged Huawei Mate 70 series.

In terms of pricing, the Huawei tri-fold smartphone is reportedly one of the most expensive mass-market foldable phones, even higher than the top-end variant of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. It could come at an exorbitant price, with reports speculating that the production cost of the model could be around CNY 29,000 or $4,000 (roughly Rs. 3,35,000).
