Biden says it took ‘too long’ for Trump to reverse border policy

President Joe Biden says he wishes he had ended Donald Trump’s border policies even sooner — despite making many of his reversals on day one.

In conversation with Time MagazineBiden emphasized that the implementation of humanitarian policies for illegal immigrants has not worsened the migrant crisis at the southern border.

He stood by his decision to reverse Trump’s restrictive border policies and says he only wishes he did so sooner — even as the president prepares to issue an executive order this week to close the border once it reaches 4,000 border crossings per day.

“If I was wrong, it’s because it took too long,” the president told Time.

Nearly 8 million illegal immigrants have crossed the southern border since he took office in January 2021, and recent estimates put the number of undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. at over 20 million.
