I am a bride and bought a wedding dress for £50 on Temu, it is ‘couture on a budget’
A savvy bride has said she saved thousands of euros on her big day by buying her wedding dress in Temu, and insists the quality is just as good as that of bridal shops.
Klaudia refused to spend thousands of pounds to find her perfect dress.
Instead, she bought TWO dresses for £100 from the online retailer that fit her perfectly – significantly less than the average amount she spends on a wedding dress in the UK, which is £1,300.
Being a savvy shopper, the bride-to-be made minor alterations to her off-the-shoulder gown to create a personalized “couture wedding dress” at an affordable price.
She said: “I didn’t want to spend thousands of euros on a dress that I would only wear once.
“Temu has really taken away the stress as the prices are much more friendly.
“I was really impressed with the quality and the materials were no different from the 1,000-pound dresses from bridal shops.”
Klaudia also chose Temu for her bouquets, corsages, table decorations and bridesmaid dresses for this special day.
And she saved enough money to pay for her dream honeymoon to Hawaii.
Several florists charged her up to £500 for bouquets alone.
By choosing dried flowers at Temu she was able to keep the cost down to just £250 – and this included the flowers for the centrepieces.
She also found great deals on the platform for her bridesmaid dresses, paying just £200 for all four.
“You can buy so much on Temu – from bridal lingerie to shoes, hair accessories, favours and bridesmaid/groomsmen gifts,” she enthused.
“Weddings are so expensive, so if you save where you can, you can make a huge difference.
“Because we saved on those things, we were able to upgrade our honeymoon and are now going to Hawaii.”
Budget weddings
According to Pnina Tornai, a famous wedding dress designer, the biggest day of your life can also be very affordable.
Tornai, who has designed wedding dresses and bling for stars including Amber Rose, showed where you can save money and still shine.
“At the end of the day, everyone talks about what the bride looked like and what she wore,” she said.
“I therefore recommend that you invest in hair, make-up and of course your dream dress!”
But if you’re going to splash out on shoes, it’s best to choose a dress with a slit to show them off. You can also be practical by choosing nude heels that you can re-wear.
And brides on a budget should opt for a dress with no alterations. A lace-up corset back will save you a lot of money on alterations if your weight fluctuates before the big day.
How to choose the perfect wedding dress?
Wedding season is in full swing, but when it comes to picking out the perfect dress, most brides-to-be are probably clueless.
Josie Griffiths, deputy editor of Fabulous Digital and bride-to-be, is getting married in August 2024 and has shared her top tips…
- Give yourself time – unless you are a sample size, dresses can take months to arrive. Don’t stress yourself out by looking too late, in my opinion, dress shopping should be second on your list, right after you find a venue.
- Visit multiple stores. You are not supposed to buy anything on your first visit.
- But not too many – just like an asshole who can’t stop swiping on Tinder, too much choice won’t help you find The One.
- Bring people with you – women who are honest but also give you credit, unlike the mean family members in Say Yes To The Dress, and ideally people from different parts of your life who don’t automatically say the same thing. I went shopping with my mother and two best friends, who didn’t know each other and had different styles.
- Think again – I went back to the store before I made my final decision on the dress I chose and tried it on again with my second favorite just to make sure I was sure. It’s an expensive purchase and you can’t return it like you can your next Asos order, so take some time to think about it.
