The Channel Islands are known for attracting rich tycons that are looking for substantial income tax at home.

But more recently a new audience has been attracted to their idyllic coasts.

Women who travel alone, or ‘female solo travelers’ to borrow the internet-friendly expression come to the small island of Sark.

Sark, located between Guernsey and Jersey, is the sunniest of the islands where cars are forbidden, beaches are plentiful and the population is around 500.

“It is really safe that you can walk around in the middle of the forest at night, it’s crazy,” explained Tara Price, a 30-year-old Australian woman who came to the island to work and travel.

“There are no street lamps, so you need a torch to make ends meet.”

Sark is the world’s very first designated Dark Sky Island because street lighting is forbidden and light pollution hardly exists.

The only way to navigate through the empty island at night is to construct a headlight and use a card.

Although walking around in dark open spaces is considered one of the most dangerous things that a woman could do alone – in Sark, it is normal and completely safe.

Mrs. Price explained: ‘The worst thing you get is a drunk person you know you are walking by.

“It’s safe to walk everywhere, leave your bike everywhere, everyone is friendly and reliable.”

The island has become a safe haven for young women who want to work, save and eventually travel somewhere else.

Amie Strode, 21, came to work in Sark about their ‘season’ tourism, which runs from March to October.

During this period there are many available jobs and accommodation on the island for those who want to travel, live and save some money without paying income tax, capital gain tax or VAT.

The inhabitant of Oxfordshire visited the island for two weeks in October and praised the freedom who can live on an island with only occasional case of small crime.

Cerys Lockeridge, 24, has returned to the island every season since the university over the past two years.

Although the remote island is practically disconnected from the rest of the world - it requires an hourly ferry to repair a telephone - it has an extremely low crime percentage

“My mother was really worried when I came here for the first time and then she visited and said it is good,” Mrs. Lockeridge told MailOnline.

‘You can walk home and not worry about being touched by a car. Someone can occasionally shorten a bike, but they tend to find out.

“You can go for a walk and see nobody, it’s just peaceful and beautiful.”

But moving to Sark is not for fear hare.

The only form of transport is walking, cycling, horse or horses drawn carriage and food is only delivered on the island twice a week, so the food variety is limited.

However, it is the perfect place to disconnect from external pressure and relax alone for a week.

Elsie Courtney, 79, who works at the only tourist office on the island, says that female solo travelers are always attracted to the island because of the low crime figures.

“We have always had a lot of solo -feminine travelers,” she explained. “We recently saw an increase in some ladies coming.”

She added: ‘I was born and bred here and there are many women to come here, it is a safe place, it is a safe place for everyone.

“Sark is too small to do something unusual because they would not get away with it.”

Mrs. Courtney explained that women made the trip to the remote island from Switzerland, Germany, France, Australia and the UK.

And that many compare their experiences with the time he spends in Thailand or Nieuw -Zeeland.

These comparisons are probably brought from the landscape.

‘We have people who come here for work and they stay because you love it or you just think about meh.

‘But a lot of them are coming with a few small bags and 15-20 years later they are still here because it is a community.

“It still has a community ethos and people really want it to help others.”
