I am a football player but I had a wedding in a small garden. I also wore my mother’s shoes from the 90s.
A WAG has revealed she wore her own brand dress and her mother’s designer shoes when she married her footballer boyfriend.
Jilly Cross, 29, and former Rangers and Hearts star Andy Halliday enjoyed an intimate wedding ceremony with fewer than 30 guests in her parents’ backyard on Thursday.
This came after the down-to-earth duo made their marriage official at City Chambers in Glasgow and hired a black cab to take them to their reception.
Fashion influencer Jilly owns her own fashion brand Dula and she refused a designer wedding dress, opting instead for a classic gown from her own collection.
She paired the simple dress, which is not yet available for sale on the website, with a white jacket, also from Dula.
She completed her outfit with a mini veil and a pair of her mother’s ’90s Chanel heels, which she described as her “borrowed something” of the day.
Jilly revealed her look and details of the ‘secret’ wedding on social media, leaving fans of the famous couple open-mouthed.
In a short clip she said, “I’m getting married, surprise. And this is my outfit that I’m wearing.
“It’s new Dula, so that could be something new for me. Just the atmosphere of the town hall.
“It’s fun to wear your own design on your wedding day.”
She added: “The morning of the wedding, the preparations were just lovely. Relaxed, calm, zen vibes (everything I’m not lmao).
“I was actually working the morning of the wedding, but the whole wedding had a calm energy. I wasn’t stressed at all, just excited.”
Jilly’s behind-the-scenes videos of their big day have been viewed an impressive two million times in just two days.
And fans of the couple, who got engaged in 2022, are loving everything from her laid-back “just married lol” announcement to her own branded outfit.
One of them said: “Congratulations honey! What a cute outfit, so happy that Carrie is marrying Big!”
“I love that you just do your own thing,” someone else insisted.
A third exclaimed: “Has Glasgow just had the wedding of the year?”
A fourth enthusiastically commented: “The most beautiful bride!! Glasgow’s version of Kate Middleton!”
“You did such a beautiful job! Perfect and so humble,” wrote someone else.
“The real royal wedding,” a sixth added.
Meanwhile, someone else said: “Wearing your own brand on your wedding day is iconic.”
And another chimed in: “Getting married in your own design is such a FLEX. Congratulations Jilly, we love you.”
The couple’s wedding planner Laura McCranor has now revealed some fun details about the big day.
The award-winning event planner and coordinator told us that Jilly and Motherwell midfielder Andy took inspiration from the 90s film Father of the Bride for their decor and arrangements, which were “a beautiful mix of nostalgia, elegance and pure fun”.

She added: “The wedding took place at the bride’s family home and exuded warmth and intimacy. The wedding was surrounded by the love of their closest family.
“The details, from the furnishings to the personal touches, reflected the timeless charm and whimsical romance of the classic film and the couple’s 10-year love story.
“We used the film [Father of the Bride] as inspiration, specifically for the old-fashioned marquee with traditional draperies, the crystal-cut glasses and the nostalgic edits and atmosphere of the photos.
“It was all about the couple’s love and being surrounded by family at home. Jilly’s shoes were vintage Chanel’s from her mother, so even this was a nice nod to the 90s.
“Their wedding ceremony was full of warmth and joyful moments, telling their love story through the years.
“In terms of decor, we had custom napkins and slippers that had The Hallidays with cute scribbles of lobsters on them. They both love the show Friends, so this was inspired by that.”
Jilly and Andy’s relaxed atmosphere is also reflected in their menu, with mozzarella sticks, penne arrabbiata and chips as starters, mains and side dishes.
The bride chose Aperol Spritz, while her newlywed husband opted for Moretti.
Reflecting on her involvement in the big day, Laura said: “Oh my gosh, I’m so happy with how it all turned out, and more importantly that Jilly and Andy enjoyed it and had a wonderful day.
“It’s great to see the reactions on social media. Gemma, the photographer did a fantastic job capturing the atmosphere and vibe. All the vendors who worked on the wedding really did a fantastic job.
“I’ve always loved planning, people and creating unforgettable experiences. It feels like a dream to be able to do this for a living.”
She added: “I’ve been in the wedding industry for 14 years, but I started my own wedding planning business three years ago.
“I do a small number of weddings each year so that I can focus 100% on my couples and give them the attention they deserve.
“This way I can be sure that I am the person you are dealing with from start to finish, during the planning of the wedding and during the organisation of the day itself.
“Hiring a wedding planner may seem like a luxury, but for many couples it is a necessity. They don’t know where to start, may not have the time, or may live in a different country than where they are getting married.
“The average wedding takes 300 hours of planning, which is a huge undertaking.
“By hiring a wedding planner, couples can fully enjoy their engagement and all the fun moments, without stress!
“I was so happy to be a part of their big day. Especially because Jilly has such a great eye for detail and values aesthetics, I knew we had to make it beautiful.”
How to choose the perfect wedding dress?
Wedding season is in full swing, but when it comes to picking out the perfect dress, most brides-to-be are probably clueless.
Josie Griffiths, deputy editor of Fabulous Digital and bride-to-be, is getting married in August 2024 and has shared her top tips…
- Give yourself time – unless you are a sample size, dresses can take months to arrive. Don’t stress yourself out by looking too late, in my opinion, dress shopping should be second on your list, right after you find a venue.
- Visit multiple stores. You are not supposed to buy anything on your first visit.
- But not too many – just like an asshole who can’t stop swiping on Tinder, too much choice won’t help you find The One.
- Bring people with you – women who are honest but also give you credit, unlike the mean family members in Say Yes To The Dress, and ideally people from different parts of your life who don’t automatically say the same thing. I went shopping with my mother and two best friends, who didn’t know each other and had different styles.
- Think again – I went back to the store before I made my final decision on the dress I chose and tried it on again with my second favorite just to make sure I was sure. It’s an expensive purchase and you can’t return it like you can with your next Asos order, so take some time to think about it.
