I am an interior designer, make your home look expensive on a budget with B&Q buy
SOMETIMES it doesn’t matter if you’ve recently decorated a room: if there’s no texture in it, it’ll always look boring.
Luckily, an interior designer has shared her top tips for transforming any dull room and making it look more expensive with a cheap purchase from B&Q.
Speaking to Sophie Habboo and Jamie Laing in their podcast, Newlywedsthe home expert told her that she was currently working with the couple to renovate their home.
Jojo is the owner of House Nine, an interior design company that focuses on traditional and elegant styles.
While we were talking about all things interior design, Jamie quickly wondered how people can make a home look instantly more expensive, even if they don’t have the budget for expensive things.
Jojo revealed her top budget tips to brighten up any dull room.
The first thing she recommended for a lifeless room was to add wainscoting.
“It makes it more interesting and you can vary the colors. It’s one of my favorite things to do in a room and it’s affordable too.
Nowadays you can literally buy packages from B&Q and do it yourself.”
You can buy a pack of panelling wood from your local DIY store for as little as £15.
“It adds architectural interest to a room,” the design professional added.
She also said that painting is an easy way to transform a room and play with colors.
Another great tip from Jojo if you don’t want to buy new furniture to spruce up a room is to use accessories.
Instead of buying a brand new couch, she suggested using pillows and blankets to freshen up the couch.
And for those who are currently decorating their homes and are facing obstacles, Jojo has some advice for them.
She shared that it often happens that we get stuck and are unsure how to continue the makeover, which means something is wrong.
Advice from an expert in interior design
She argued that “design paralysis” was usually a sign that something wasn’t working and that you should take a step back rather than push through.
Jojo who is designing houses and hotels have been showing for years that it was quite normal to argue with your partner during the process.
With so much changing and so much money being spent, she said it was inevitable and she had seen it before, so don’t take it as a sign that your relationship is falling apart.
One way to ease the tension, she said, is to move out of the building being renovated, if possible, so you’re not surrounded by the mess and construction workers all the time.
