Q) I am self-employed and I enjoy my work. My days are varied and I can choose when I work, which fits in well with my family commitments.

However, I do see my working friends getting regular raises, promotions and training, and I wonder how I can advance my career and expand my skills.

Day rates in my industry tend to be within a certain range and I feel like I’ve hit a ceiling in terms of earning potential. Any suggestions?

You can take on more clients and increase the volume of your work, or you can expand your offering.

You may need some training or qualifications to do this, but if you are motivated to grow your business, it is a worthwhile investment.

Attend networking events and talk to other independent entrepreneurs. By learning from their experiences, you will gain new insights and ideas.

Stay open-minded and remember that you are not limited to your current situation. You always have the power to change it.
