A clever gardening enthusiast has revealed her simple trick for restoring ‘dead’ supermarket plants to their best condition within days.
Kirsty bought two pots of beautiful fuchsias from Sainsbury’s last week for just 5p each.

The flowers originally cost £2 but were heavily discounted as they were wilted and dead.
Rather than let them spoil, Kirsty rescued them from sale and tried to breathe new life into them.
Post on the Facebook page with ideas for a garden renovation on a budgetwhich has 625,000 members, she said: “I came across a Fuchsia in my local Sainsbury’s that was discounted to 5p.
“When I got home, I ran the tap over them. Then I put them in a bowl of water for an hour and then watered them every few hours.
“The next day I already saw improvement. I continued to water a few times a day.
“[On] On day three I removed all the already dead parts and decided it was time to put them outside.
“The one on the right was starting to develop some new growth. I wasn’t entirely sure if this would survive the plant when I picked it up from the shelves.
“Today they are thriving. I am in awe of the transformation in four days.”
And social media users are amazed by her green fingers.
“You sure have a talent for it! Well done,” cheered one.
A second wrote: “Inspiring!! I’m going to try it too – thanks.”
A third replied: “You did an amazing job breathing new life into them. They look brand new again. Well done.”
“I’m going to try it too, I’ll save myself a lot of money,” said a fourth.
A fourth joked: “I CAN’T even keep healthy plants alive.”
While a fifth sighed: “It’s sad and annoying how some supermarkets neglect plants. If you water them, you get a bargain.”
Kirsty is not the only one with her ‘dead’ plant project, as a supermarket employee reveals who says he does the same.
He said: “I work for a supermarket and I bring loads home. I have a good success rate.
“I soak them for a few hours in an old rain boot I have, then put them in the dark for 12+ hours, remove any dead and dying bits and repeat the process.
“It can be fun to take home a load of ugly plants.”
