I broke off my engagement and gave him the house – now I live in my mother’s little shed
A YOUNG woman tells how she turned her life and home around after ending an unhappy relationship.
Serina Katherine shared on social media how she moved from a house into her mother’s small shed with no bathroom.
She shared photos of her new home and revealed that she had broken off her engagement and given the house they bought together to her ex so they could make a fresh start.
The woman wrote: “I broke off my engagement, gave them the house we bought this year, and because the rental market is completely crazy, I had to choose an unconventional way to live.”
“My mother uses this 10x20ft “tiny house” as an office/storage space on her property until her official office space is ready. It sits on 20+ acres of trails and a pond.”
In the photos, the blue shed had a small wooden terrace where you could relax, but inside it was a blank canvas, without a table, chairs or sink.
Serina planned to make it her own little house so she could save money on rent.
She continued, “Bottom line: I’m moving soon and need ideas to make the most of the space and still make it feel like home.”
At that time, there was no bathroom in the shed, but she and her mother planned to have one built next to a small kitchen.
Serina then asked the group members for ideas for space-saving furniture and storage options.
While many would consider the lifestyle change a negative, Serina admitted she was happier than ever.
“It felt almost impossible for so long, but I feel so much better,” she commented under the post.
The post shared on the Facebook group, Small-scale livinghas since gone viral with over 1.9 thousand likes and 430 comments.
People immediately supported the young woman and were impressed with her new home.
Someone wrote: “It will be such a Nice sanctuary.”

Are tiny houses legal in the UK?
As long as the tiny house is no larger than 19.8m x 6.7m, it is defined as a caravan in UK law. Therefore, tiny houses are classed as legal additional dwelling accommodation.
Can you get a mortgage for a tiny house?
The small size and relatively low cost of tiny homes means that they are generally not eligible for a mortgage. However, there are plenty of options for getting a loan to finance your dreams of the perfect, portable home.
