I can’t stop watching this dark comedy show from the 2000s on Prime Video – this is why it is still worth streaming

Some TV programs are as a comfort food, and for me there is no show more reassuring than Peep Show. The British sitcom from the early 2000s is my go-to when I don’t know what to see for some time now, and for good reasons.
For the Non -Intachden, Peep Show Follows the misery of self-testing, tense loan manager named Mark Corrigan (David Mitchell), who rents out a room in his flat in South London to Jeremy USBourne (Robert Webb), Aka Jes, a reckless and impulsive musician.
Together they stumble blindly into daily life, usually they usually end up in a desperate situation of their own. There is something strange cozy looking at two uncomfortable housemates because of the small humiliation of life, especially when their internal monologues are so brutally honest – and endlessly quotable.
I am not ashamed to admit that I often notice that I am referring to memorable lines from the series. Don’t believe me? Since I write about a TV program, I can’t help it, but I think of a suitable scene from one of my favorite episodes of the entire series, ‘Seasonal Beatings’ (episode 5 of season 7), where Mark discusses what to view:
“We all have Loses And they were … somewhat okay, and Heroes Had some interesting themes, but also a lot … not so interesting themes. And PrisonerTowards the end I really wanted to break that out of prison Prisoner Was for us. “
Unlike many other shows, Peep Show Is not only “somewhat okay”. It do have interesting themes and me never I want to break out of my habit to repeat it. Whether you discover it for the first time on one of the Best streaming services Or review it for the umpteenth time like me, Peep Show remains one of the most unique and rewarding comedies there are.
Why you have to view Peep Show (still)
The series contains some of the best bij signs you will ever meet. From Jes’s ‘Moreish’ bandmate Super Hans (Matt King) and Mark’s ruthless boss Alan Johnson (Paterson Joseph) to Mark’s Love Interests Sophie (Olivia Coleman) and Dobby (Isy Suttie), the supporting cast is just as quirky and fascinating as the two leads.
Peep Show‘s Cringe Humor sees the show often compared to another beloved Sitcom that you may have heard of: The office. But although both shows are filled with uncomfortable silences and collaborating main characters, Peep Show Is in its own class.
The humor is more polished (yes, there are moments of chaos, but it is not slapstick), the underlined themes are much darker (in one episode it goes to the “Heart of Darkness“) And his characters are much misled (the show really doesn’t stop how much sometimes). But at the same time it does not do this in a pretentious way.
Indeed, there is no shine here. The flats are grim, the tracks are soul -wide (although one character close to the ‘Big Three’: “Museum, lunch and a snooze”), and the dreams are small. But that is what makes the show so easy to look at, because it doesn’t pretend it’s something big.
The second-hand shame that you feel of the comedy is all reinforced by the shaky point-of-view (POV) filming that the show is known for. There is nowhere for the viewer to hide. You see everything up close, giving you the feeling that you are in the heads of the main characters.
Although the film style is unique, a few can also get used to it. The first season was still finding it (rainbow) rhythm With the POV camera work and mounted head cameras for the actors to produce the effect – the quality of the images that were produced cameras were quite low, which is why they are used less later in the series.
In short, don’t skip the first season because you are put off by the video quality; Stay there, because you are rewarded with some of the best gags in the series, including one that appears again in season 5, which you would otherwise not get if you skipped it.
What also makes it a reassuring TV program to stream is that the episodes are short, usually a little less than 30 minutes, but a lot is still happening everywhere. Peep Show Is the perfect series for short sessions when you need something light to view because you can easily tune into it.
So what are you waiting for? Pour yourself a huge drink. Turn on the TV and open this exceptionally funny show that immediately deserves your attention. Cheerful Peep Show Everyone watch!
