I created a dress code for my wedding, guests were outraged over an awkward mistake

A BRIDE-to-be has revealed the ‘dress code’ mistake she made on her wedding invitations which left guests mortified.

Australian media personality Brittany Hockley has been in a long-distance relationship with ex-Celtic star Benjamin Siegrist for about two years.

The couple got engaged earlier this year with a lavish beach proposal in Oz.

Brittany is now planning a beautiful Bali wedding for the couple to celebrate their ‘I Do’s’ with their loved ones.

But she’s already faced with a horrific wedding planning blunder after handing out her wedding invitations.

In her Life Uncut podcast, the influencer revealed that she had created a “strict wedding dress code.”

But a language barrier between some of her guests caused her one line to come off complete different – and much more personal.

She said: “Ben and I sent out wedding invitations. And he said, honey, I’m getting these random messages. People keep asking me about the dress code.

‘One of my friends messaged me [too] and went ‘dress code?’

“This happens four or five times. That dress code is pretty standard.”

She explained further, adding, “So Ben is Swiss and half of our wedding is foreign.

“One of his girlfriends says, ‘Hey, I just wanted to talk about the dress code,’ and he says, ‘Yeah, what’s the big deal?’

I spent hours perfecting my wedding speech but the bride denied asking me and claimed I ‘grabbed the mic’, her actions afterwards were even worse

“And she said, ‘well, how strict is it? What if it doesn’t match my dress?’

“He said ‘oh, so confused’. And then she says ‘well, I don’t see how she’s going to know if I’m wearing it. Who in their right mind wouldn’t make us wear and enforce thongs.’

“And then Ben said, ‘They will stand on your feet. She will see them’.

“And she said, ‘Wait a minute, feet?’ And he said, ‘Yes, your feet’.”

It was only at this point that it dawned on the couple that thongs mean thongs in Australia, but elsewhere – including Europe – are a form of underwear.

Brittany laughed, “Ben is calling me [and said] “Honey, half of the wedding things you said are not allowed to wear thongs, strict enforcement. Full instructions or nothing’.”

Her hilarious confession has since gone viral on Instagram with 703,000 views.

Her fiancé Benji immediately jumped into the comments to joke: “The language barrier strikes again.”

And social media users are just as amused – and a little confused.

“This is hilarious,” wrote one.

A second admitted: “NGL, I didn’t understand until you explained it. I thought the same as the guy.”

A third added: “Lol I knew that’s what she meant but I also knew what they understood as soon as she said thongs.”

A fourth chimed in: “Now you need to have someone do underwear checks at the door.”

A fifth joked: “Granny panties or bust for your wedding.”

Meanwhile, a sixth commented: ‘Imagine what the girlfriend thought. That you didn’t want Ben in people’s sexy underwear or something. She probably thought you were crazy.”

Brittany’s fiancée Siegrist left Celtic this summer for Romanian side Rapid Bucuresti.

His move to Glasgow came after he hinted he sees his future outside Scotland.

And although he’s only traveled 2,000 miles so far, it’s widely believed that a move to Australia to be with his other half is his end goal.

In an interview with Stellar magazine Last year he said: “I’m a very private person and like to keep to myself, but me wanting to open up to Britt was a sign.

“She listens and she makes me laugh so much.

“She is so kind and always wants to help people and lift other people up. She really is the complete package.

“I didn’t know what the future held, but I wanted it to be with her.

“And we’ll work everything out from now until the day I probably move to Australia.”
