I did the quarter stack test with Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, iPhone 16 Pro, Galaxy S25 Ultra and an iPhone 6S, and one came out

The new Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge combines some of Samsung’s best technology from the leading flagship telephones and adds a number of new wrinkles to deliver an exciting new Android smartphone that is already well known as one of the slankest handsets on the market.
It has no new chip, but the one who has it, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 -Elite for Galaxy, is the best you can get for Android. It misses a telephoto lens, But includes the equivalent of the best 200MP camera in Samsung. It is a usually uncompromising smartphone that promises almost every function that you can find about the more expensive function Galaxy S25 Ultra (Save the S -pin).
But for which you pay $ 1,099.99 / £ 1,099 / au $ 1,849 is an incredibly slender titanium frame, one that feels thin and, with only 163 grams, exceptional light. Although I know the specifications – 5.8 mm – I had trouble finding a way to put that measurement in perspective.
That is why I brought a small collection of quarters to my first practical experience with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. I think a stack of quarters in addition to the latest Galaxy S -Thone from Samsung helps to contextualize these thicknesses.
Is it as thin as a stack of six quarters? What about five? And how does that relate to other telephones, even classic thin handsets from a bygone era?
That’s the thing about thinness. It seems to go in and out of fashion. Sometimes we prefer Zily for, for example, the battery benefits it offers, and other times we get tired of wearing all that extra weight and dream of paper-thin phones.
However, thin phones have their risks.
The bow of time bends
When we think back to the icon of the thinness of the handset, the iPhone 6 PlusMany of us also remember less than loving meadow. That was then Apple Built a 6.9 mm thick iPhone that could not stand against a butt, or at least could be resisted to be pressed between a butt and a hard surface such as a chair or concrete ledge.
A year later, Apple followed that with the 7.1 mm iPhone 6s And then the iPhone 7With a reinforced aluminum of higher quality. That ended Bendgate and, for a while, our desire for ultra -thin phones.
But now they are back. Apple is said to prepare one iPhone 17 Air That can even surpass the S25 edge in thinness. However, Samsung has the edge and works on thin phones, even before the edge of the S25 edge.
Companies -Execs told me that the work of Samsung on the folding line has prepared it well for building this slender handset. Unfolding, the Galaxy Z fold 6 is only 5.6 mm thick. Yes, even thinner than the S25 edge.
If you wonder why the S25 edge is a few millimeters thicker than the Z fold, then remember that Samsung can split the 4,200 mAh battery of that device between the two halves. Samsung had to fit the 3,900 mAh battery of the S25 Edge in a single 5.8 mm panel of 5.8 mm.
Could this little piece of technology sky lead to a different “bendgate”? I doubt it.
The flat titanium band around the body of the S25 edge is much rigid and less bendable than the completely bent aluminum body of the iPhone 6 Plus. Samsung also uses the brand new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the display to further strengthen the phone.
It was all this in mind that I brought out my pile of quarters and went to work to measure real thinness based on a coin scale.
- Classic iPhone 6s (7.1 mm): 4 quarters
- iPhone 16 Pro Max (8.25 mm): 5 quarters
- Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (8.2 mm) 5 quarters
- Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge (5.8 mm): 3 quarters
Although this is not an exact science, the modern American neighborhood has remained reliable in 1.75 mm thickness since the 1930s. Yet my results are logical when you compare the actual thickness of each phone in millimeters. The S25 edge is the clear leader.
My small experiment proves that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is one of the thinnest phones on the market in the most physical sense. Of course it may not seem that much of a test. But hey, what else did I do with this pile of quarters?
For now I suggest that you go to a Samsung retailer to at least touch the super-thin Galaxy S25 lead for yourself. Quarters are optional.
