I didn’t want to spend hundreds on a nutcracker, so I made my own using pots and pipes
A WOMAN has revealed she didn’t want to spend hundreds of pounds on a fancy nutcracker, so she decided to make her own on the cheap.
Using plant pots, buckets and old drain pipes, this DIY fan was able to bring some festive fun into the home, without spending a lot of money.
Not only this, but she also used freebies from B&Q to keep the cost of the homemade nutcracker down.
Delighted with her Christmas creation, Nicola Crawford took to social media to share it with others, leaving many with their mouths open.
Post on BARGAIN LOVERS Poundland, Home Bargains, B&M, Primark, The Rangea public Facebook group with 524,800 members, Nicola uploaded photos of her stunning pink nutcracker.
Alongside the photos, she wrote: ‘I really wanted a big nutcracker this year but it was so expensive.

“So I made my own from containers and plant pots.
“Other materials were from The Range and B&Q or whatever I already had at home.”
Nicola confirmed she used “plastic buckets, plant pots and pipes” for her traditional nutcracker design, adding: “This is the end result.
“I’m happy with the result and it was cheap to make.”
Although similar nutcrackers range from £99.99 at Home Bargains to £249.99 at The Range, it’s no surprise that Nicola was thrilled with her cheap DIY creation.
She later wrote: “I made him with flower pots and buckets for his body, face and hat (face is a plastic terracotta plant pot), his legs and arms are old drain pipes.
“I used wallpaper samples from B&Q to decorate it and ribbon from The Range. Feet are cream pots.
“I used edge compound, double-sided tape and a hot glue gun to apply materials and attach arms and body together by drilling a few holes and using zip ties.
Will the Christmas pieces come out earlier this year?
It often feels like Christmas decorations and products appear in stores earlier every year.
Retailers typically start stocking holiday items well in advance of the holidays to take advantage of early buyers and extend the shopping period. Here are a few reasons why it looks like the holiday pieces are coming out earlier this year:
Extended shopping season
Retailers are looking to extend the holiday shopping season to maximize sales. By releasing Christmas items earlier, they encourage people to start Christmas shopping earlier.
Consumer demand
Some consumers prefer to plan and shop for Christmas items well in advance, so stores are responding to this demand by stocking Christmas items earlier.
Marketing strategy
Early displays of Christmas items can create a festive atmosphere and build anticipation, encouraging people to get into the holiday spirit and spend.
Competition
Retailers compete to attract customers, and being the first to display holiday items can give them an edge.
Supply chain considerations
Given recent disruptions to global supply chains, stores could release holiday items earlier to ensure they have sufficient inventory and to spread demand over a longer period.
“I painted the face with acrylic paint and pens from The Range and a little glitter for the eyes.”
Nicola’s Facebook post has clearly made an impression on many as it was shared just three days ago but has quickly racked up more than 8,400 likes.
