I discovered my husband’s double life after he died just days after I had his child
A NEW mother discovered her husband’s double life after he died just days after giving birth to her.
Marianne Fraser, 32, was in a happy baby bubble after welcoming her son Soren, now 19 months old, with her musician husband Liam, 25, in December 2022.
But on New Year’s Eve, she walked in holding Soren and found Liam having committed suicide.
Her world collapsed and she was readmitted to the hospital with her son. She was so sad that she could not eat.
When she got home, police gave her husband’s phone back. She discovered he had cheated on her after finding text messages and a gift card.
Marianne has put all her energy into caring for her son and making music. She is about to release her new album and then leaves with Soren for Southeast Asia.
The primary school teacher and musician, from the Scottish Highlands, said: “I found him, I was holding Soren. It feels like everything has been swept away. I was in total shock.
“It’s crazy to be angry at someone who is no longer alive. I have a choice: I can stay in my house and waste away or I can show my son what a great life there is to live.”
Marianne and Liam met through musicians in the area and were married for four years.
She added: “We were trying to start a family. It was a beautiful time to tell our families. It was so exciting. Everyone was surprised but excited.”
Soren was born five weeks premature, weighing 6 pounds and came home on Christmas Day 2022.
But everything changed on New Year’s Eve when Marianne discovered that her husband had committed suicide.
She said: “I still have gaps in my memory from it. I couldn’t eat and was readmitted to hospital for a few days.
“I found phone calls to someone while I was in labor. It was just blow after blow.
“I kept thinking I was going to wake up from a painkiller after giving birth. It feels like it’s all very contaminated.”
Despite the initial shock, Marianne is glad she knows the truth.
She said, “I would have preferred to have known. I think knowing gave me some kind of closure.
“I focused on what was best for my son. I did everything I could to do that.”
At the end of January she went to a festival with Soren to see one of her favorite bands.
Marianne said: “It was the first time I felt this sense of calm. At that moment I knew I had to go back to music and use it as my therapy.”
The following year, the mother worked on her own music, focusing on making music that was cheerful rather than sad.
She has taken Soren to 12 shows and festivals and says he “loves it.”
When her album – Open Hearts and Magic – is released later this year, she will be traveling with her little one.
She said, “It’s a one-way ticket to Southeast Asia. I wanted to give Soren this incredible life.
“I’m raising Soren by myself. How is it different from doing it anywhere else? He’s happy, healthy and thriving. I’m lucky to have him.”
Marianne’s new single Yes, Let’s Talk is out now and her album Open Hearts and Magic will be released in the fall.
