Reddit user Akabeast18 shared her technique in a post on the social media platform.

She said she was inspired after watching a video of a father giving his children more independence.

The idea got her thinking and she called her 8-year-old and 10-year-old daughters for a chat.

She told them she was done with waking them up in the morning, picking out their clothes, brushing their teeth, showering them, and waiting until after 7:25 to take them to school.

She also said that if she has to drive back to pick them up, they have to pay for the gas costs by doing chores around the house.

She also gave the children responsibility for their own laundry.

IRON MOTHER

She explained why she decided to take drastic measures for her kids’ morning routine.

“I had absolutely no idea I was doing so much for them and it was stressing me out,” she said.

She added that the nagging about basic needs like hygiene and homework became too much.

“My morning now consists of waking up, brushing my teeth, combing my daughter’s hair and leaving,” she said.

I got tired of carrying my kids’ laundry downstairs, so I made my own laundry chute

“Not only do I have less stress, but I also teach them responsibility and independence, which I didn’t do at all before.”

The mother’s Reddit post caused a bit of a stir, with some saying she had gone too far.

She responded by clarifying the original post and providing some context.

“I am shocked by the outcome of this news,” she said.

“I don’t know how it is that my children have to do three things every weekday morning (get up, get dressed, brush their teeth) and that this is neglect and therefore CPS worthy, but to each their own.”

Other Redditors shared their thoughts about similar experiences from their childhoods or with their own children.

“We were raised that way too and I think in many ways it has helped me become an independent, confident person,” said a 31-year-old woman.

“I really believe our children can do more than we think.”

“Well said. I’ve given my daughter free rein to express herself, but basic hygiene is non-negotiable,” added another.

“I did this with my children and gradually gave them the responsibility of getting up, eating and taking care of their own hygiene as they got older,” said a third.

“It helps with the stress levels in our home and now that they are both in high school, they are both good at regulating their own schedules.”
