I found the perfect shoes for my daughter to wear when she goes to school
It can be difficult to find a pair of shoes for school that are comfortable, durable, and affordable.
But one mom thinks she might have, after accidentally finding the perfect pair of Mary Janes for her daughter to wear when she starts school in September.
Sophie took to TikTok to video of the black shoes, as she wrote at the top: “The nicest shoes for my girl who goes to school”.
Somewhat surprisingly, the shoes are actually Crocs and they only cost £19.99.
They’re called the Brooklyn Mary Jane flat and come in sizes 4 through 10, meaning they’ll fit most girls up to age five.
“Designed to be simple and chic, the Mary Jane flat features a stylish square toe with a Croslite™ footbed for ultimate comfort,” Crocs says of the shoe on its website.
“The signature adjustable strap across the foot features a hook-and-loop closure for a secure fit and makes the shoe easy to put on and take off.”
Other parents were quick to respond in the comments to Sophie’s video. One parent wrote: “Do they feel like crocodiles inside?
“My daughter only wears her Crocs and I walk into blocks in school shoes!”
“Yes, of course,” Sophie replied.
“My daughter will only wear Crocs. They are very similar and have a nice wide front so her toes don’t get squashed in them.”
“I had the adult version of these shoes when I worked 12 hour days in the hospital and they are so comfortable!!” wrote another.
“The most durable and long-lasting shoes!!!” a third insisted.
“I just ordered some for my daughter for school,” said someone else.
“Thank you for sharing this!”
“My son is going to school next month. I’m really struggling to find nice shoes!” wrote another.
Sophie replied, “It’s so hard, isn’t it?”
How can I save money on school uniforms?
IF you are struggling to afford the cost of school uniforms or PE kit, you may be able to apply for a grant from your local council. However, the criteria for this will vary from council to council.
This is usually in the form of a one-off payment that is deposited directly into your bank account. Some councils will refund payments made to approved retailers.
You can ask your municipality what assistance is available and when you should submit an application.
If you cannot get targeted help from your municipality, there are other options to get a cheap uniform.
Contact your school to ask if they can provide you with clothing.
Some charities also offer help to families in need. Charity Turn2Us has a free grant search tool on its website that you can use to find out what help is available to you.
Thrift stores can also be a good place to find cheap school uniforms.
“We have tried Clarks and the like, but my daughter just doesn’t find shoes that squash her toes comfortable.
“And she felt so comfortable in it!
“Not everyone’s style, but all that matters is that she feels comfortable.”
For those with older children, Brooklyn Crocs are available in sizes 11 through to 3 on the Next website, and cost £25 per pair.
The only difference is that the band of the larger children’s version is elastic.
