I founded a seven-figure hair brand in honor of losing my mother at age eight
ERIM Kaur’s mother was known for her long hair.
Tragically, she passed away from cancer when Erim was just eight years old, but her death was the start of a seven-figure business that keeps her memory alive.
Enterprising Erim launched his own hair oil brand after spending days trying products like onion juice and eggs for luscious locks.
“My mother died when I was eight and one of the things she was known for was her long hair,” the 29-year-old says.
“I have always loved her hair… and her beauty.
“When she passed away, I really missed that.

“In her memory, I vowed to preserve the beauty and meaning of her long hair, which was tragically lost during her brave battle with cancer.”
Erim, originally from London, is the proud owner of the eponymous hair care brand ByErim.
When she lived with her father as a child, she spent almost every weekend with her grandmother.
There they spent their time scouring cookbooks and stores to ‘preserve’ the ‘essence’ of her mother’s hair and find the golden recipe that would ensure natural, yet fast hair growth.
“We spent years together in her kitchen, trying out countless unconventional and quirky mixes,” says Erim.
“After countless trials and tribulations, we persevered until we found the perfect combination: the key to preserving the essence of my mother’s hair.”
The duo tried out several recipes, some of which were tastier than others.
Ingredients included onion juice, egg and yogurt.
“The moment of revelation marked a turning point in my life,” Erim adds.
“I knew I had a responsibility to share this incredible formula with the world.”
The 4 Phases of the Hair Growth Cycle
Hair experts at Philip Kingsley shared the four stages of the hair growth cycle: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen
Anagen phase:Also called the ‘growth phase’ or ‘active phase’, is the phase in which the cells in the hair root divide most rapidly, causing more new hair to be formed.
During the Anagen Phase, hair grows about half an inch per month [about six inches a year]and faster in summer than in winter.
This phase of the hair growth cycle lasts an average of three to five years.
Catagen phase:After the anagen phase, your hair cycle enters a short transition phase called the catagen phase. This phase marks the end of active hair growth and separates individual hairs from the blood supply and the cells that produce new hair.
About three percent of all hairs are in this stage at any one time and it lasts about 10 days.
Telogen phase:The third phase of your natural hair growth cycle is the telogen phase, a resting period during which hairs remain in their follicles but are not actively growing.
It is estimated that 10-15 percent of your hair is in the telogen phase at any given time.
The telogen phase lasts about three months or 100 days.
Exogenous phase:The final stage of the hair growth cycle, when individual hair strands release from their follicles and fall out.
Now the whole process starts again.
Since launching in December 2019, she has sold 75,000 bottles of hair oil and grown the hair care brand into a seven-figure business.
After just two years, Erim had grown the business into a company with more than £145,000 in cash in the bank, Companies House documents show.
Each ByErim formula – which now also includes scalp scrubs and oils – is aimed at helping women achieve long, healthy hair.
A summary of the products reads: “ByErim helps to achieve optimal hair health when used consistently.

“Our luxurious hair and beard oil is a multi-sensory experience and not just functional.
“With opening notes of bergamot that bring out a grounding citrusy freshness, drawn through by the lavender that is the main ingredient.
“It gives an immediate calming effect, combined with rosemary, which finally grounds the scent with a lovely earthy, spicy and relaxing scent.
“The scent only lasts for 20 minutes on your hair and beard and doesn’t clash with your body odors or aftershave.”
