The Best Netflix movies Often get a follow -up, but that didn’t go so well for 2020s The old guard. The sequel is part of Everything comes to Netflix in July 2025But after arriving on the platform last week, critics and fans gave the super hero action film down a big thumb.
If you are not familiar with the plot, Charlize Theron Andy, who leads a group of immortal mercenaries who can heal themselves. In the follow -up film they stand up against a new enemy in the name of the protection of humanity, while they are dealing with the return of a long -lost immortal.
Unfortunately, many have emphasized problems with the film, including an undeveloped script and a cheap overall look, which have been cited as reasons for not pressing The old guard 2. Nevertheless, the sequel has succeeded in reaching the top 10 of Netflix, and I think one is overlooked why it should stay there.
Why I recommend viewing the old guard 2

Spoilers follow for the old guard 2.
Two words: Charlize Theron. More specific, four words: the leading romance of Charlize Theron. Cut the noise of reviews and furious messages on social media, and you will find a deserved appreciation for the will-they are non-love in the center of the film. Andy has an unspoken connection with Quỳnh (Veronica Ngô), an immortal that used to be connected to the old guard. We met the couple during the first film, but the sequel ever brings fans closer to a potential Andy-Quỳnh-Kus.
It doesn’t happen, but that’s hardly the point. The old guard 2 It may not have been all beats of a well -made film, but it plays this specific storyline in his favor. By taking the time to develop what is between the background, there will be a more satisfactory payment in the long term – and that means the increased possibility of The old guard 3.
Even if that doesn’t happen – Andy and Quỳnh clearly only have eyes done, even after 500 years alive. Netflix must be praised for exploring a different kind of vulnerability and representation. It is not outright LGBTQ+ Filmbut the New Netflix film Gives our reach in his love, and we can all get something from that.
