I got cheated on getting a mummy makeover, but my husband loves every inch
A mum has hit back at critics who opposed her desire to normalize mum makeovers.
Nika Diwa opted for cosmetic surgery after welcoming two daughters with her husband of eight years.
Nika (@NikaDiwa) has over 2 million subscribers on YouTube and 1.5 million Instagram followers.
She was joined by her husband in a now-viral video where she shared an update on her mommy makeover after three weeks.
“Your abs look great and you haven’t done any core training yet,” her husband said.
“It’s a huge transformation.”
Nika seemed happy with her 34C breasts and slim figure, but admitted she was unhappy with the appearance of the skin on her stomach.
Her husband assured her that he did not expect her body to look the same after giving birth.
“You are gorgeous, you are beautiful, you are my wife and I love every inch of it,” he said.
The video came after Nika revealed it to her Instagram followers that she got a mummy makeover because she had a lot of loose skin.
She blamed breastfeeding and having big baby bumps.
“I think there should be room for a woman to be selfish for herself, so I got a mummy makeover and I’m proud of that,” she said.
The video received more than 39,000 likes, but commenters were divided in agreeing with her decision.
Many people said she was ‘inspirational’ and raved about her appearance, but others said surgery is dangerous and should not be normalised.
“No, let’s not celebrate the mommy makeover, many women cannot afford such a procedure,” said one.
“It’s okay that you shared this, but no, in my opinion, mommy makeovers are not normal nor common for the less privileged, everyday moms.”
Another commenter said that cosmetic surgery should not be linked to motherhood.
“You changed your body because you didn’t like it anymore… it’s not called a ‘mummy makeover’, it’s a tummy tuck,” they wrote.
“Why would you link motherhood to surgery because you can no longer enjoy your body after having children?
“Do whatever you want, but I think calling it a mummy makeover is crazy. Many people who are not mothers still get tummy tucks, breast lifts and butt lifts.”
What does the NHS say about exercise during pregnancy?
The NHS states: “The more active and fit you are during pregnancy, the easier it will be for you to adapt to your changing shape and weight gain. It will also help you cope with childbirth.”
It tells women to continue the exercise for as long as is comfortable and that it is not dangerous to the baby.
The NHS tips are:
- Don’t exhaust yourself. You may need to take it easier as your pregnancy progresses or if your maternity team advises you so. If in doubt, consult your maternity team.
- As a general rule, you can have a conversation while exercising during pregnancy. If you get out of breath while you’re talking, you’re probably exercising too hard.
- If you were not active before your pregnancy, do not suddenly start exercising vigorously.
- If you are starting an aerobic exercise program (such as running, swimming, cycling, or aerobics classes), tell the instructor that you are pregnant.
- Always warm up before exercising and then cool down
- Try to stay active every day – 30 minutes of walking a day may be enough, but if that doesn’t work, any amount is better than nothing
- Avoid strenuous exercise in hot weather
- Drink plenty of water and other fluids
- You may want to try swimming, as the water will support your increased weight. Some local pools offer aquanatal classes with qualified instructors.
- Exercises that involve a risk of falls, such as horse riding, skiing, ice hockey, gymnastics and cycling, should only be done with caution. If you fall, there is a risk that your baby will sustain damage
Nika’s fans were touched by the way her husband supported her amid the wave of ‘nasty messages’.
“It’s your body! Do what makes you feel good! You look phenomenal mom!!!” someone said.
“Your man raises the bar for every man!!!” said another.
“I just love his praise for you! You are a beautiful woman and with or without your mommy makeover you are beautiful!!!”
