‘I got slaughtered!’ says mother of 3 as she’s trolled for holiday food hack
A mother has been left stunned after she was brutally harassed over a money-saving trick she used over the festive period.
Ellena is a mother of three children and is enjoying a five-week summer holiday in Cyprus with her children.
But going on vacation for that long would be beyond any budget, so Ellena tries out some money-saving tricks to keep the costs down.
She decided to share one of the tricks in a video on her TikTok page, but could never have predicted the response she would get.
The clip shows her spreading bread, topping it with cheese and making sandwiches.
“Mom, don’t be afraid when you stay in a hotel with small children,” she wrote above.

“My girls don’t eat breakfast, it’s too early for them, so… I take a container to breakfast to make sandwiches for the whole day.”
Then she put the rolls in the container and added some cucumber slices and extra pieces of cheese.
“Set aside for lunch!” she added, though she noted that the sandwiches shouldn’t be left in the heat for too long, as the cheese would melt.
People were quick to react to the video in the comments. One was furious: “The driest sandwiches ever – no filling around the edges or corners.
“Poor children!
“Why can’t you make a decent sandwich?”
“That’s so rude,” said another.
“I could never do that,” said a third.
As someone else said, “I’m so grateful that I can afford things.”
To which Ellena replied: “We are going on holiday for 5 weeks!
“As you know, children eat every 2 minutes!”
But the rude comments continued, prompting Ellena to respond once more in a separate video.

“Wow guys!” she began.
“I was slaughtered because I took a container to breakfast on vacation.
“The response has been crazy – just because I take a container to breakfast in the morning and fill it with sandwiches and other goodies for my kids.”
Ellena added that the trick she shared was to take the container to breakfast, and not to spread the sandwiches.
“I got slaughtered for the way I put the cheese on the bread and people are allowed to call me names and talk about myself just because I make a sandwich for my kids,” she ranted.
“’Poor children, poor children’ – they are here on holiday for five weeks!”
She addressed the trolls and continued: “It’s crazy how you think you can belittle us mothers like this.
“You don’t know how we parent, so don’t come on my TikTok and don’t try to comment if you don’t have anything nice to say. Because it’s really not nice to put people down.”
She ended her photo by turning the camera around and showing the fantastic view from her hotel room.
People in the comments on the video were quick to reassure Ellena. One wrote: “I thought it was a brilliant idea!”
“Don’t mind it, honey. All mothers with young children do the same thing,” insisted another.
“Ignore these sad people, darlings, and enjoy your holidays,” urged a third.
As someone else said, the trolls were probably just “jealous”.
