I Grew Up In A Rough Country, Now I’m A Millionaire – Why I’ll Never Retire
MANY of us dream of one day being rich enough to never have to work again, but for Jessica Crane, that’s her worst nightmare.
Multimillionaire business coach Jessica has been working long hours in the beauty industry since she was 12. She survived a difficult childhood and made sacrifices to be financially independent for the rest of her life.
Despite achieving global success, the thought of laying down the tools and retiring early makes the mother of two shudder. Stopping work is simply not an option.
While many agree she deserves relaxation, she admits she thrives on stress.
“Pressure is a privilege,” says Jessica, who grew up in Britain’s “biggest hellhole” Birmingham.
“I hardly watch television and you can only have a limited number of hobbies.
“I really don’t know what I would do if I didn’t work. I think I would drive crackers to my family.
“Work gives me passion and purpose.”
Her satisfaction in life comes not only from knowing she has created security for her young family, but also from the help she provides to others.
Guiding women to realize their potential and protect themselves financially is what makes her feel good and fuels her drive.
“For me, responsibility is exactly what drives me forward every day,” she explains.
“I like pressure, when there is no pressure I seek pressure. When I raise my goals and find ways to control myself, I feel most in control.”
Instead of working as hard as possible to retire as early as possible, Jessica urges people to change their mindset and take care of themselves by enjoying the fruits of their labor while they are still young.
By regularly rewarding hard work, she inspires herself to continue pursuing high goals and achieving long-term success.
“I often find it strange and challenging when people around me say they can’t wait to retire,” she admits.
“To be fair, most of these people have jobs, so they have some limited time freedom.
“But when I ask ‘what are you planning on doing that you can’t do now?’ they don’t really know. I think it’s because society conditions us to go to school, get a job, work your whole life and then when you retire, relax and enjoy yourself.
“But unfortunately this is no longer the reality.
“The retirement age has been raised and people are not building up substantial pensions like previous generations were able to, because of the cost of living and the cost to people of getting into the housing market.
“I think the goal is really to enjoy life every day and embrace it, and not wait until the future to enjoy things that you can prioritize now.”
Jessica says people need to stop focusing on balance to find happiness.
When can I retire?
IF you are wondering when you can retire, it is best to contact your pension provider.
“People try to find a work-life balance every day, but I don’t think it’s possible,” she says.
“But I do think your life has seasons: summer and winter.
“Women try to do and be everything perfectly. The perfect mother; saying yes to play dates, activities, helping with the PTA, the bake sale, and the endless list.
“She also wants to exercise every week to stay fit and healthy, stay active on social media for her business, support her team, be a good friend and go out on a night out that you don’t really feel like doing because you feel like you have to, and also organize family gatherings.
“I enjoy doing all of these things, but if I’m working on a stressful task for my business during the winter, I’ll take some of these tasks off my plate for a while.
“When you work longer hours on a project, you have to reprioritize certain expectations without feeling guilty. In the summer, you have more time and the pressure is a little less.”
