A FORMERLY engaged woman has revealed why she still wears her engagement ring, even though it reminds her of her selfish ex-fiancé.
She admitted that their relationship was all about him, but she can’t let go of the ring he gave her when he proposed.
Reddit user AmbitiousYetMoody candidly shared the story behind her engagement ring in a after.
“The ring, like our relationship, was all about him,” she said.
She shared a photo of the ring on her hand, explaining that the color and style were not her own choice.
The piece featured a deep blue stone, flanked by small diamonds, on what appeared to be a band of white gold or platinum.
“The blue? His favorite color,” she said.[It] wasn’t really what I wanted.”
The Reddit user admitted it was a “compromise” because she was “so excited to be engaged.”
Other users thought the stone was a sapphire, but she explained that it was actually blue topaz.
“I like the ring, but I like it less because of the memories attached to it,” she said.
One Redditor noted that it was “rude” of her ex to comply with his wishes when it came to her ring.
“Don’t worry. It didn’t work out and he married another woman within a year,” she replied.
“Hopefully they’re a better match than we were and he’s improved since then!”
Even though they are no longer together and he is married to someone else, she still wears the jewelry as a ‘normal ring’.
“It still has a lot of sentimental value because the stones my parents brought back from their honeymoon were reused in the ring,” she says.
However, she admitted it was a “constant visual reminder that he always came first” in their “toxic dynamic”.
Since then, she has “given new meaning to the ring” and wears it “occasionally.”
Other Redditors gave their opinions and expressions of support.
“That is a BEAUTIFUL ring, apart from everything else,” one person wrote.
“It’s really beautiful, but I’m sad you didn’t get the ring of your dreams,” agreed another.
