I have a system that makes lipstick last longer – it stays on all day, even if I take a few steps
A self-proclaimed burrito fanatic reveals her trick to keeping her lipstick in place all day.
She shared tips on how to get your lips in the best possible condition before applying any products.
The beauty fan shared her lipstick tutorial in a post on the Makeup Addiction forum on Reddit, which has nearly 6 million members.
SIMPLE SOLUTION
She said it’s important to exfoliate and moisturize your lips to get them in “top condition” so your lipstick lasts longer.
“For the actual lipstick application, I have a system that seems a little long, but it’s totally worth it,” she said, writing under the name Most fun.
“After I exfoliate my lips the night before, one of the first things I do in the morning is apply a layer of Vaseline to my lips.
“I let that soak in for a while while I do the rest of my face, and then I pat off the excess.”
The Redditor said she loves using MAC’s lip primer as the first step when applying lipstick.
She then uses a clear lip liner from Sephora on the outside of her lips to prevent the color from bleeding onto her skin.
She said an extra step may be necessary if you want to create a lasting, bold look.

“Depending on the color, I apply lip liner and a thin layer of lipstick,” she said.
“I blot the lipstick with a tissue and reapply it. I repeat this as many times as necessary, depending on how opaque I want the color to be.
“If I follow these steps, my lipstick stays on all day.”
However, she said she may need to reapply lipstick to the corners of her mouth if she drinks alcohol.
“Of course the formulation of the lipstick matters, but I use my routine as a safety measure,” she said.
“Because I’ve had issues with both fading and bleeding depending on the lipstick formula, I want to keep an eye on everything.”
BEAUTY PURCHASES
Many people gave her a positive review and thanked her for sharing the makeup trick.
Sephora Collection Beauty Amplifier Universal Lip Liner is currently not available online.
A two-pack of Vaseline costs $2.49 and MAC Prep + Prime Lip Primer costs $25 at Target.
Customers have given the primer a rating of 4.5 out of 5 possible stars and written rave reviews.
“This is an amazing product that is non-greasy, goes on smoothly and sheer and is a must before I apply lipstick as it levels the lipstick and prevents it from smudging,” said one.
Another customer said they get “so many compliments” on their lips no matter where they use the primer, while a third raved that there was “little to no transfer” on their drinking glass.
“I’ve been using this primer for years,” said a fourth.
“You just apply it first while you apply the rest of your makeup. Give it about 5 minutes to dry.
“Your lipstick is super soft and stays on for hours.”
