She joined beauty journalist Twiggy Jalloh, Sheer Luxe editor-in-chief Charlotte Collins and aesthetics expert Dr. Wassim Taktouk on the Pure luxury podcast.

The group spoke candidly about their skincare routines and thoughts on products designed to combat aging.

Twiggy said her biggest skincare rule is being consistent with the products that work for her skin, despite constantly being sent products to test for work.

“When you’re an editor or a journalist, you’re receiving so many products all the time and I’m testing so many things,” she said.

“And I have quite sensitive, oily, combination, acne-prone skin, so I had to stick to the products I use and stop using so much.”

She swears by ceramides, azelaic acid, and “gentle” PHAs to protect her skin barrier while fighting acne.

Georgia said having a minimum skin care regimen is good advice for everyone because it helps them learn what works best for them.

She claimed that buying products from stores like Boots or Sephora can be overwhelming.

“We are one of those generations that expects results now, but for Twiggy, consistency and compliance are everything,” she said.

“My biggest thing and I think people think beauty editors are the most boring people in the world, but they really know how important an SPF is in your routine.

“I recently listened to a founder say, ‘If there was a cream that everyone knew could prevent breast cancer, you would slather it on yourself every day.’

“SPF is honestly one of the most important things that can prevent not only skin cancer, but also skin aging.

“I think almost every sign of aging is exacerbated or caused by UV damage, so this is the one thing you can really use to control how your skin ages.

“If you think about it that way, it becomes less boring and a chore, and more something you want to do every day.”

Twiggy agreed with the importance of regular use of SPF and said it also helps for an even skin tone.

The importance of SPF

Now that summer is finally here, here’s everything you need to know about SPF.

1. Protects against UV radiation:

  • SPF protects your skin from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays, especially UVA and UVB rays, which can cause sunburn, premature aging and increase the risk of skin cancer.

2. Reduces the Risk of Skin Cancer:

  • Regular use of SPF can significantly reduce the risk of developing several types of skin cancer, including melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.

3. Prevents Premature Aging:

  • UV exposure accelerates the aging process, leading to wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. SPF helps maintain youthful skin by blocking these aging effects.

4. Maintains Even Skin Tone:

  • Sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. Regular use of SPF can help prevent these problems, leading to a more even and radiant complexion.

5. Essential for All Skin Types:

  • Regardless of skin type or skin color, everyone is susceptible to UV damage. SPF is crucial for all skin types to maintain healthy skin and prevent damage.

6. Daily Necessity:

  • UV rays can penetrate clouds and windows, making daily application of SPF essential, even on cloudy days or indoors.

Georgia said people are starting to focus on “aging well” instead of trying to look younger than their age.

“It’s not that I want to remove every line from my face or have a complexion that is clear as crystal, I just want to age in a way that suits my lifestyle,” she said.

She urged beauty lovers to use trusted skincare products instead of following social media trends.

“Homemade remedies – at one point there wasn’t a fashion for smothering your face with Vaseline or castor oil,” she said.

“It’s just no. It’s boring, but trust the clinically proven ingredients and give it time.

“Lemon juice squeezed over your face will not suddenly make your skin shiny, bright and beautiful. There’s a reason there’s so much research behind it.

“They work, but you have to be patient.”

Twiggy said lemon is “painful” on the skin and warned that just because something burns your skin doesn’t mean it has a positive effect.

Dr. Wassim Taktouk revealed that it can take at least six weeks to see if an over-the-counter beauty product is effective.

In addition to a personalized skincare routine, Georgia revealed that she slows skin aging with a lactic acid peel.

“It’s an AHA, but very well tolerated,” she said. “If you think glycolic acid is a little too strong or spicy for you, that’s a good thing.

“It gives really good brightening, smoothing and retexturizing results which I’m a big fan of.

“In the clinic and there are also some topical treatments that I appreciate as well. To me, that’s a reliable treatment that works.”
